Azati Prime

Azati Prime, aired 3/3/04

Excellent episode. Looks like T'Pol is on a mission of self-discovery - Trip isn't really in the picture any more, although he may want to be.

ZG is no longer able to do the Special Editions because of other commitments.

Enterprise reaches Azati Prime. A convoy is approaching the planet. The warp signature proves it is Degra aboard.

The security grid surrounding Azati Prime is impenetrable. Archer tells Trip and Travis to get up to speed piloting the Xindi ship they recovered and try to slip through the grid by pretending to be a local.

T'Pol urges Hoshi to get the insectoid translator finished so that Trip has time to install it. That T'Pol always looking out for her man and his needs.

Archer wants Trip back safe and sound: "Just get in there, find this thing, scan it and get out. Remember whatever information you gather won't do us any good unless you bring it BACK."

Trip: "I'll keep that in mind."

Those two crazy sentimental guys! They shouldn't gush so much.

Trip and Travis take off for the planet.

Their flight path is somewhat erratic. Trip and Travis run into the ship as they try to learn to steer the insectoid ship. "Sorry!" Trip says to Archer. "That's OK," Archer responds, "I'll send you the bill." A nice reference to the ongoing joke between the two men and the scratched hull in Broken Bow.

Travis gets a feel for steering and the two head off to the planet. As they pass through the grid, they get detected and manage, thanks to Hoshi's translation matrix, to pretend to be insectoids. The ruse works and they are in.

They are passing through the grid.

The grid is causing too much interference.

T'Pol: I've lost him...I mean I've lost them.

Enterprise is scanned by a small monitoring base on one of the moons. Archer orders the station with its three Xindi occupants to be destroyed so that the presence of Enterprise can be kept secret for as long as possible. A hard decision for Archer to make, but a necessary one if the mission is to succeed.

The planet has almost no land, so they go underwater and find the weapon.

They scan the weapon and return to Enterprise.

The weapon is in the final stages of construction. Most work seems maintenance related. Archer decides he will go in the Xindi ship and destroy the weapon. It will be a suicide mission.

T'Pol is very concerned by Archer's decision.

On his way to get flying lessons in the Xindi ship, Daniel's drops by to say "hey" and take Archer on a trip 400 years into the future. Don't you just hate when that happens? Kinda throws your whole day off. Archer isn't pleased to see Daniels, nor is he persuaded not to try to destroy the Xindi weapon. Daniels tells Archer that the "Sphere Builders," who can see alternative timelines, are manipulating the Xindi to destroy earth because in the future the Federation of humans, Andorians, Vulcans, etc. will defeat the Sphere Builders and drive them back into their transdimensional realm. By having the Xindi destroy earth, the Sphere Builders will ensure the Federation never gets formed because humanity no longer exists. In fact the Xindi will be destroyed as well when the Sphere Builders complete their plans to occupy the galaxy. Archer tells Daniels he doesn't have time for the diplomatic solution and tells Daniels he is still going to go on the suicide mission. Daniels gives Archer a Xindi medal from 400 years in the future as evidence that the Xindi and humans, in the future, are allies against the Sphere Builders.

OK, did you all get that? There will be a history test later. Hmm, if the test is about events in the future and the manipulation of the present, is it really a "history" test? Something to ponder.

Azati Prime, the Trek version of "It's A Wonderful Life," where humans find out that they do matter.

T'Pol wants Archer to heed Daniels and look for a diplomatic solution. T'Pol doesn't want Archer to die. It isn't necessary.

Archer wishes that were true.

The Reptilian and Degra argue over the convoy to accompany the weapon. The Reptilian wants enough ships to hunt down each and every human and destroy them. A comm sounds - one of the lunar outposts isn't responding. The Reptilian leaves. Degra reflects upon the magnitude of what the Xindi are doing, the innocents who will be killed in the process.

Archer tells Travis he won’t order anyone else to die – he already has the blood of the Xindi from the monitoring station as well as the blood of Sim on his hands.

The goodbyes on the bridge. Archer speaks to the group about their future, that after they get back to earth, they need to continue to explore. He looks directly at Trip and says “I want you to get back to that job.” A private good bye in the midst of the public farewell.

Archer is inside the grid. “Give ‘em hell, Cap’n,” Trip says. T’Pol goes to hole up in the ready room.

Trip is very concerned in the midst of Archer’s departure. What is wrong with his love? She isn’t focusing! She tends to be the rock, not the wave.

A Vulcan tear! Oh, my. Why is T’Pol so stressed out?

Archer gets captured as soon as he sees the weapon.

It’s been over 2 hours. Trip and Travis were there in 25 minutes and they didn’t know where to look.

Is it possible Enterprise’s sensors missed the explosion? Doubtful, T’Pol responds.

Trip tells T’Pol that her place is on the bridge.

T’Pol tells him she will be notified if her presence is needed.

Trip: “No matter what happens to the Xindi weapon, the Captain isn’t coming back. You’re in command now. The crew needs to know you’re on top of things. It doesn’t help if you are holed up in here.”
T’Pol: “I don’t need any leadership advice.”
Trip: “I’m just trying to help. This isn’t easy for any of us. (when T’Pol doesn’t acknowledge what he has said) T’Pol?”
T’Pol: “Dismissed.”
Trip: “Dismissed?”

T’Pol: “Get out.”
Trip leaves.

Whew! T’Pol is not a happy camper. She normally handles her responsibilities without getting a hair out of place. Hmm, could it be, is it possible, T’Pol is having a bad hair day? Is this the Vulcan version of that phenomenon?

Archer is a prisoner being grilled by the Reptilian about humans in the expanse. (Drat that ZG for putting her life ahead of Enterprise and leaving us with no Special Edition! I have no reference resource! Does anyone know if the Reptilian has a name?) Archer taunts the Reptilian with stories about reptiles on earth – small brains but those turtles make good soup.

Clearly Archer didn’t succeed. Trip and Malcolm want to go into the planet and try to take the weapon out, but T’Pol doesn’t think that will work because they will probably be stopped first. If they don’t hear from the Captain in one hour, T’Pol says to go to the planet and try the Vulcan diplomatic solution. T’Pol, sweetie, Vulcans aren’t the most diplomatic of species. Something has really addled our beautiful Vulcan’s mind.

Trip and Malcolm basically tell her she must be crazy, that she can’t believe that solution could possibly work. T’Pol sees no alternative. Hmm.

Degra comes to meet Archer. Archer knows the name of Degra’s third child, who was never born because of the mom’s illness.

Archer tries to convince Degra about what Daniels said. He gives Degra the Xindi medal from the future to prove that Xindi and humans become allies.

The Xindi, sans Reptile Man (Woman?), discuss what Archer has said. They refer to *she* a couple of times. Who is *she*? Anyway, the seeds of suspicion have been sown, for Degra sounds like he beleives Archer that indeed the reptilians have traveled to earth in the past and are working on a bio-weapon, against the wishes of the Council.

Trip chases after T’Pol through the corridors of Enterprise, urging her not to do this. Another suicide mission isn’t the answer. What are we supposed to do, he asks, send one person at a time until no one is left? “That hardly a viable option. We only have one more shuttlepod.” That T’Pol, what a card! She has been taking lessons from Trip – how to use humor to deflect the horror of what is happening. Trip spreads his arms in exasperation. She is missing his point! Hmm, is T’Pol being willfully obtuse? Could be.

Trip: “I don’t think you are doing this to make peace. I think you want to try to save the captain.
T’Pol: “You’re wrong.”

Trip: “Why do I get the feeling you haven’t thought this through?
T’Pol (voice raised, almost strident): “You have made your objections clear. Now return to the bridge!”

Trip: “I’m not just going to sit still and watch you fly off and die.”
T’Pol: “I gave you an order.”
Trip (grabbing her arm): “T’Pol!”

T’Pol (struggling): “Let go of me!”
Trip: “I won’t let you do this!”

T’Pol, our lovely diplomat: “I said ‘let go’!”

Trip: “What the hell is wrong with you?”

The comm beeps. It is Malcolm calling T’Pol.

No need to go to the Xindi, because the Xindi have come to Enterprise.

T’Pol goes back to the bridge. The Xindi ignore T’Pol’s hail and charge weapons.

Archer has the Xindi almost convinced to believe him.

The ship looses helm control. T’Pol tries to get through to Engineering, but comms are down. Trip can’t hail the bridge to report that the last blast took out a nacelle and Enterprise is dead in the water.

We see people getting killed and injured. Hull plating is down. T’Pol tells Hoshi to get the comm. back online.

The Reptilian returns and has the almost convinced Xindi escorted out at weapon’s point. Enterprise has been detected. Archer will go to a detention center and should any of the ship’s crew survive, they will join him there.

T’Pol tells Malcolm to close off the decks where hull breeches have occurred. Bulkheads aren’t responding and they are venting atmosphere.

Trip’s crew is being decimated in Engineering. He tries one last time to reach the bridge and report he has coolant leaks everywhere and is evacuating Engineering. He orders everyone out. We see Trip, I believe, hit by a blast, fall and…

…bodies sucked out of the ship. Is it Trip? Has Trip been killed? Maybe not, the blast that hit this time was after Trip had been hit.

The bridge is in flames. We see Hoshi and Travis in slow motion trying to keep working and Malcolm helping someone wounded. This is so reminiscent of Twilight. Remember how at the end of Twilight we didn’t get to see that last shot before Trip, Malcolm and Hoshi were killed by the final blast to the bridge? Well, perhaps this is what Trip looked like this…

...at that final moment.

Enterprise is blasted away and we see it drift off…

A whole mess of folks have made comments

Great screen caps, as always.
I think T'Pol has to distance herself from Trip right now because she has lost control, I still think she likes him and eventuallly they will have a relationship. It wouldn't do the show much good if it was resolved too quickly.

Trip isn't in the picture anymore?? Myst! Look at it this way: He's the only one T'Pol trusts enough to see her this way. He's the only one that knows something's wrong. And we all know he's a helper. I'm sure things will be fine. We just need to be patient and give them time.

Not having seen the ep, I'm no expert, but from the way Trip is looking at her in these caps, he's cares so much. He sees something is wrong.

If he wasn't in the picture anymore, i don't think T'Pol would let him close enought to see her like this.

I have hope. Even after reading a certain threads on the HoTBB I still have a small curl of hope.

Trip knows something is wrong with her. That was made clear in this episode. What is unclear is whether he is the one to "rescue" her or if Archer will be. Archer, however, did not come across as aware of the changes in her behaviour, which gives me hope that in the end, Trip will prevail. What is still unclear is whether Phlox is aware of the disintegration or at least the possibility of the disintegration of her control. Phlox is the one character in a position to drag T'Pol back from the abyss, leaving her strong enough to reject both Tucker and Archer. The most likely scenario of all, darn it, in my less than humble opinion. Thanks for the screencaps. I look forward to them.

Great job! and I agree with Stub, T'Pol only allowed Trip to see her loose her control... being unVulcan. That takes trust.

Great caps
thanks again I can not wait for when I can see this episode.
and I agree with Stub T'Pol don't want that somebody else her see her so only Trip

T'Pol is out of control, her emotions are now surfacing and she is aware that now she is worrying about what happens to Archer. Trip is someone she knows how to handle and right now she can't deal with him and the responsibility of the crew as well as Archer's fate. It's too much emotion for one Vulcan and maybe she realizes that she really does care for all of them. Time will tell.

Love the screen caps! I just wonder if T'Pol could be pregnant? That could be why she is losing control! Do Vulcans have hormones?

it looks like she got so angry at the shuttle trying to make sure he didnt go with her..

I wanted to slap her when she told him to get out.
It's the look that built up to her saying 'Get Out', that pissed me off, more than the words.
Heartless wench. I'll forgive her, but I think Trip deserves an apology and hug. OK, just a hug, and I will forgive her. ;)

Great Caps - Thanks.

i agree with u PK...

but i think trip should say something like
"i already lost one close friend, i don't wanna loose u too."
or something like this :)) I mean archer is maybe his "BEST" friend !!! They know each other for so long and did so great things together !!!

He should be a little more worried. T'pol should properbly be the one solacing Trip.

I think Trip sould have stopped her, if the call was't comming...... to impede loosing another close friend....

T'Pol is PMSing -- but seriously, folks, there's something afoot, more than our eyes got to meet for the cliffhanger. No matter how TPTB resolve all of it, Trip and T'Pol will always have neuro-pressure. How do ya spell relief?

Berman flash - [edit - spoiler in link provided]

Folks, I avoid spoilers at all costs. These comments posted come to my email. PLEASE PUT SPOILER SPACE OR NO SPOILERS AT ALL!!! I'm less than pleased to know what is going to happen. ls, I'm going to edit your comment to delete the spoiler.

I agree that T'Pol's emotions are surfacing and she's not sure how to handle them yet. Maybe it has something to do with her illness. I think that in her eyes, if Archer dies, she'd be losing a friend and in a way a mentor. Remember that the people she's closest to are Trip and Archer. It would be like like losing family. I just hope to hell I'm right. I really like that close-up of her eyes.

Spoilers. I whole heartedly agree with you myst. Anticipation. As children (and as adults, as a matter of fact!) the whole excitement of such a thing, @ Christmas, is the anticipation of the big event. It would be like reading the ending of a book first..........so what would be the point of the whole thing??!! Anticipation!!!

I'm a spoiler junky, but I'm even more annoyed than Myst that a spoiler was left here.

If you have news, let people know you have a spoiler and provide a link.

EX: "Berman spoiled the cause of T'Pol's behavior. See link: http:// etc."

Please exercise a little courtesy and keep the spoiler information out of posts here. There are threads in the HoTBBS and other boards where that kind of information is welcome. Not here.

Hey, did anyone noticed....

there was that nice :))))) foice from "Broken bow", wenn t'pol tells trip, she will be contacted if her presents is needed...

VERY NICE !!

ups... forgot the germany in my name....

Great caps, myst! Very intense ending for this one. My favorite scene was when Trip and Travis first see the weapon. Trip's eyes filled with tears. CT played that scene so wonderfully, it broke my heart! Now to sit back and wait for six weeks to pass! Ugh!

Thanks again for the screen caps. Really look forward to them!
My computer won't bring up the transfer; so I couldn't see the spoilers! Thank goodness!
I'm at a loss with T'Pol. How could she be so mean to Trip? I hope the Summer doesn't leave us hanging!

How long? Six weeks??? We have to wait ...? I realy love UPN ;-)

The third season is fantastic. Star Trek was not better ever.

Greetings Sam

I think the very best part of this whole ep is when T'Pol cries, "Engineering!" from the bridge, trying to reach Trip as the Xindi attack... the comm is down, she can't reach him... woa is me!

There is more than concern for the ship/engineering in her voice... she's trying to reach her anchor...

RE SPOILERS: I mistakenly spoiled here once, and was so embarassed by the comments, I will NEVER do it again (I learned my lesson); I now chat about spoilers only in spoiler threads on the HoTBB. But I think we all need to remember that it's *VERY* EASY TO GET EXCITED AND FORGET WHERE YOU ARE! The spoiler-fools (like me) have to be super-duper careful, and the anti-spoilers have to be polite/understanding rather than adversarial when they remind the mis-spoiler about etiquette. If we are *ALL* CONSIDERATE, no one on either side will be annoyed or snappy (or angered or hurt)...

nikitee, you are right. I'll be more gentle in my reminders in the future about no spoilers. I'm sorry, ls - I shouldn't have snapped at you. --myst123

um, can't wait to see the episode, ive just seen similtude, stupid english timings. Am i the only one thiinking Pon Farr? maby its just me. Loevly screeenies and scripting. But you know it would never work out between trip and t'pol, anyone know a vulcan/human hybrid with a vulcan mother that fits the timeline? and wats the benarr syandrome?

Myst, what if the mysterious "she" the Xindi refer to is Rajiin ? I admit this "she" confused me a bit and I saw you were, too. Think of it: the whole scene has a sense only if it's Rajiin !!! Remember the "Rajiin" episode ? Aboard the Enterprise she contacted the Reptilian Xindi we see in "Azati Prime" ( they have the same voice ) questioning Archer on how many Human vessels had entered the Expanse ( and he's the same Reptilian Xindi who introduced Rajiin at the Xindi Council at the beginning of the "Rajiin" episode ). "I'm just trying to help" ( to quote Trip's words to T'Pol in the captain's ready room ) =)

Sorry, in the entry above I forgot to mention my name in the right place...

kessyvi

people might be interested in this..

http://worf.dyndns.org/Enterprise/#Closed_Caption_Logs

has the close captions for the show and in it there is no name given for the xindi reptile

Great acting, it's just sad that they had to come up with such a lame story arc. Destroy the enemy weapon? How stupid can you get. Archer the moron. How do they even know that's the real weapon, or if it's the only one? What's to stop the Xindi just using atomic or antimatter weapons instead?

We can build atomic weapons that could crack a planet like an egg *today.* With the technology level of that era we could probably detonate an enemy star.

The only thing that could be done to calm down the Xindi is to find every one of their planets and target their entire race with doomesday missiles. Mutually Assured Destruction, Baby. Do you really wanna play that game?

I would also look into time travel. Go back and do unto them first, since they bungled their shot.

Interesting point with the time travel, Doc. Daniels his comrades from the future could have easily contacted someone from the past to undo the alliance between the Xindi and the Sphere Builders and prevented the attack on Earth and everything following that event..

As for spoiler, I am firmly ANTI-SPOILERS! It ruins the suspense. I used to be a spoiler junkie. In the past reading spoilers for shows I didn't watch actually made me tune into them, but for a show I currently like? Nah. I prefer to watch and find out.

All I could think when T'Pol was going nuts was... "whoa! Trip, you sure you like her because I wouldn't wanna be dating a person who has to power to snap you in two at any time. And with that attitude she just might do it!"

But then I though... "oh who am I kidding! Those two belong together. T'Pol could never kill Trip."

And then I was laughing at the panicked look on T'Pol's face. Poor girl, she's in way over her head at this point! Damage can't come soon enough!

I dont believe that T'pol will ever fully show her emotion like a human, she will probably always be very dry. I do think that she cares for Trip and finds him attractive but she was a deushbag to lie and say it was an experiment when any idiot could tell, that is if they watched Enterprise from the beginning, that she had passion at that moment that she went down. Also I have noticed some Romulan tendencies in her when she does show her emotion, I never see happyness, just anger and being upset. Perhaps it is best if she conceals her emotions after all.

i think T'pol and Trip's sexual relationship is dead. there's plenty of room for a friendly relationship, especially given the difficulties T'pol is experiencing, and the fact that Trip seems willing to help.

above all. i want to see T'pol become a competent leader again. she's lost it for now, but i hope the explanation is good, and temporary.

I am really, really scared that this is going to turn out to be some kind of Archer/T'Pol thing... I don't want to see Trip's heart broken!
