TwilightTwilight, aired 11/5/03 zealousgirl's Special Edition Report of Twilight has been posted.
T'Pol is captain because Archer was injured during an encounter with an
anomaly. Archer saved T'Pol's life but couldn't get out of the way of the
anomaly quickly enough. The anomaly contained a parasite which has
infected Archer's brain and which doesn't allow him to create new long
term memories - he will never remember for more than a few hours anything
which happened after the anomaly hit. **When Archer was injured, the alliance between humans and Vulcans was derailed because T'Pol is one of the keys. She was building a personal relationship with Trip and a professional/political relationship with Archer. She was supposed to be the bridge from Vulcans to humans, but without the two relationships she was supposed to have, and by taking on the responsibility of the ship, she couldn't achieve that. Her relationship with Soval is another key - she is the one who will bring him kicking and screaming into the 22nd century. Also, humans blamed Vulcans for "holding them back" when in reality the Vulcans were just being Vulcan. If humans wanted to move ahead, they should have, but the higher ups in Starfleet agreed with the Vulcans. I don't think humans going into space early was the problem - Soval was wrong in this episode and so was T'Pol for blaming Vulcans - the problem was the loss of the personal and professional relationships which the two species need to have to build an alliance. It wasn't the loss of Archer which caused the future to go awry, but
the loss of T'Pol. ** A very sad yet good episode. What hard, tragic lives this future
held. ~*~*~*~*~*~* Thankfully, next week our lovely T'Pol and handsome Trip may get that most important personal relationship back on track! And in the meantime, maybe our fan fiction authors can write some missing scenes in Twilight about Trip and T'Pol so that the two have some joy together, even in this horrible future. A whole mess of folks have made commentsI love the one where he's looking at her, awesome pics keep it up Did anyone else notice that they used a clip from Twilight to promote The Shipment episode? The moment was T'Pol shouting at the Captain to leave. The promo last week used that moment to make it appear as if T'Pol was shouting a Trip to save himself. Great caps! I'll chalk this one up to TPTB giving that vocal bunch of A/T'P fans something to chew on for a while. Next week it looks like we'll get Trip/T'Pol back! :-) I actually enjoyed "Twilight" immensely! CT was absolutely amazing! He blew me away in every single scene in which he appeared! Sorry, I have to say something about the A/T'P aspect of this episode before I pop: I really did not see this as a romance/shipper episode at all... T'Pol was loyal to Archer out of duty and "life-debt" obligation (Vulcan honor, y'know), to the point of assuming his role in the mission when he was unable to continue, and then becoming his nurse. It is the duty of as apprentice/brother/friend, assumed willingly but with regret (did you see the agony in her eyes when she told Trip she was resigning?), but T'Pol was sliently MISERABLE in this arrangement: she had NO substantive relationship with Archer (or any of the crew) after the corridor... she may have heard things he'd confided/spouted in the span of a day, or had some momentary connections (perhaps even physical intimacy) with Archer because of her proximity, but he is NOT A COMPANION OR AN EQUAL -- he is not even someone with whom a book can be read and discussed by the fire at night! He is a hollow shell of the friend and commander he once was, because he cannot change and grow -- despite all the universe progressing around him; if the two formed a romantic relationship, it could have lasted for a few hours only -- and may or may not have repeated on subsequent days (if it did or did not, it would be equally painful). Talk about sucking the air from a room, and a life: Archer and T'Pol are tied together without and chance for growing either together or apart... stuck in a bubble where change is not possible. T'Pol's posture, expressions, and physical appearance throughout the Ceti Alpha Five-era scenes are those of a person defeated by circumstance: she is pale and slouched, tentative in her movements and tired/weary in her speech. Her "anticipation" of Archer's thoughts and questions each morning is not compassion, it is a bizzare re-enactment that's been happening for a decade with only minor variations or ad-libs... she mouths the words of the morning ritual, but no longer has an intellectual interest in it: the outcome is always the same and any "progress" is erased by dinner. She now "handles" him to avoid the more extreme/painful of his emotional outbursts she has experienced and will experience until the day he dies. Our vivacious T'Pol comes alive again only when escape seems possible: the scientist still in her immediately understands the implications of the temporal/dimensional parasites... she probably would have pushed Archer bodily into the warp reactor if he'd objected or not "gotten it"... thank God he did! It's interesting that non-parasite/retro Archer teasingly comments on her "nursing" skills as he does at the end: not "you're so good to me" or "thanks"... instead, you'd make a good nurse/servant/caregiver, as if he actually knows and understands his professional dependancy on her despite his apparent mentor role -- dependancy that would never allow them to be relationship equals. Sorry, this was long winded, but it's been stewing since last night -- with a lot of reflection on a similar situation in our own family (a dear family member had been bedridden for 3 years, and was cared for at home until the last day; it was eerie to see the parallels -- that despite the love and you have for the person, you cannot help but be affected by the bubble of silence and stability that comes to surround them, and to even resent it)... I really enjoyed this episode -- great, realistic performances by Bakula, Blalock, and Trinneer... Thankyou for the caps. Looks a wonderful episode, and I wasn't at all surprised by the comments on Connor's performance, he never lets us down, thanks for adding the "North Star" ones too! Great screencaps for a great episode you captured some of the bestshots.I really how seeing a captain's table seen has been sorely missed. Thanks for the great pics and including the North star caps. There was a second "Twilight" scene in the trailer from "The Shipment". It was a really quick shot of Archer jumping over his bed to tackle the Xindi. And... the scene of T'Pol shouting at Archer to leave is a different cut in the trailer than it is in the ep. She is a little more restrained in the ep. Thanks for the great screencaps! And I echo nikitee's sentiments. Although there was a brief glimpse of a possible T'pol (shipper's)connection to Archer during the conversation between Phlox & T'Pol when he mentions how difficult it must be to learn all about Archer throughout the years and yet Archer forgets "about her" every day. I would have liked to have seen Trip become a little more emotional when T'pol resigned her commission though. (I'll re-watch tonight to see if I missed something). All in all it was well written and fairly fast paced. PS - loved Captain Tucker's "sexier" haircut and Mal's goatee! I thought T'Pol's reaction to Phlox's comments was "biting cheeks to keep from speaking"... like when someone says, "Your shildren are so energetic; I don't know how you keep up. You obviously love them very much," at the exact time you want to sell them on e-Bay because they've been fighting non-stop since dawn, or just colored all over the new wallpaper in the dining room, or you just cleaned up the 4th "accident" today after your son went potty himself for a whole week... (the look said: Yes, I care deeply, but not quite as you perceive... but you don't know half of what goes on -- but you can keep your illusions; why should we all be miserable?) At least that's how I saw it, in my stressed-out-soccer-mom-with-a-full-time-job vision. And ditto on Capt. Tucker's new haircut -- very sexy! I want Mal in the "Master and Commander" sideburns a la Russel Crowe, tho! Sorry, again! I am too social today. :) I am very frustrated that Matt/Trek5 have stopped reviewing Enterprise, especially after this AWESOME episode -- which is very "classic Trek" in style and sentiment. I hope we see a lot more eps like this, even after sweeps -- it took 3 seasons at least for the TNG, DS9, and VOY series to hit their stride... I am hopeful, especially in the glow of this ep. PS: I love the screen caps! Sorry to have not said so 2 postings ago! My bad! having seen the episode again on videotape I think it's wonderful that they let robert duncan mcneil dirrect I thought ever since I saw that post on startrek.com that this episode would be good, they gave everyone the right parts and everyone was in the right places. Still I hate when they push subtle hints that T'pol likes the captain and it's not really, but all in all it was a great ep (and my first comment was really retarded I'm sorry I just liked the emotion in that screen cap, and if your wondering which one it was it was the fifteenth one down so yeah) Now we wait for next week, I wonder how they're going to cover up for Trip's hairstyle since they clipped his hair (it looks like it maybe not) if they didn't then it'll be fine but ya know it just looked like they cut it... It'll be intresting to see how they cover it up Another comment from me! The cap right before the one which shows the bridge being destroyed is absolutely wonderful! It captures Trip's facial expression which conveys every single emotion he's experiencing at that moment. How utterly wrenching to know the only family you have left is going to die. His face just says that to me. Thanks, myst! I am going to seem like a Bim after that insightful post, but yowza . .
. Trip and the collar shirt. . . malcolm and the goatee. . . Trip all
tense and giving orders . . . And now Trip as a cowboy . . . riding a horse . . . sighhhhhhhhh Oh, yes, I enjoyed the episode as well . . . damn country music awards I was cut off from eneterprise! the nerve! love the caps this week and the ones for north star too!! sigh trip on a horse indeed! hehehe as soon as I get the hell out of my classes today I'm gonna crash and watch the episode twice... anyways if y'all aren't too busy could you update the fashion t'pol has gone through more costume changes this season than I can keep count, love the caps with her and trip with their captain pips too! keep up the great work! You never let me down.....great pictures again. Sooooo looking forward to this one....and the 2 episodes that follow too! *winks* Thanks for including "North Star" here. Do not dispair that it was an A/T'P ep! I've been reading production reports (I'm pretty good at finding information that's not supposed to be out there) and the producers were saying that originally the plan was for A/T'P. But if you go look at message boards and fanfiction.com and use search engines, theres about three times as many forums, sites and fanfics supporting T/T'P as A/T'P. So I think that's why just before season three the producers in a press conference said specifically that "If T'Pol's getting together with anyone at this point its going to be this guy over here [pointing at CT!]" In my opinion, Twilight was a farewell to the A/T'P relationship. For every one A/T'Per you have three T/T'Pers, but that still means that you have 25% of T'P/somebody shippers who will be pissed off when our couple gets together. So what they did (and I would have done the same) is wrote an episode that gave A/T'Pers 12 years of unsaid stuff that they can pour over and write about and cling to when Trip and T'Pol finally get together. That way the 75% of T/T'Pers (us) can be happy and the 25% of A/T'Pers can pretend they're happy. ;) HA! I love that outlook, TTer22!! It makes complete and absolute sense to me! Have I added my comments to this page yet? I don't remember. But as a testament to Trip and T'Pol's relationship, even in this alternate universe, Trip got mad at T'Pol, she accepted that and they got over it. They made up, moved on and still came out as friends. The caretakers in them probably had a lot to do with it. Trip did look distressed at the news of T'Pol resigning as captain. It's a damn shame, though, that he never got to say goodbye. That look on T'Pol's face in the last shot reminds me soooooo much of the look of adult amusement on her face in Broken Bow when he ranted at her how much he was restraining himself from knocking her on her ass (as if he'd be able to!). I can almost hear her thoughts.. ~He hasn't really changed at rock bottom, still such a child ..just not in a temper this time because he's been given his toys and comforts.~ :Þ Just had to add, when I watched the episode again, and looked at the
caps.. when they are in Engineering and Phlox is outlining the proposed
anti-proton treatment, where do we see T'Pol standing? Not at Archer's
side..but close to Trip again. Wonderful pictures. My favorite part of Twilight was seeing Captain Trip, what a truly competent leader. As much as I love Trip and T'Pol as a potential couple....I have to admit that there is a considerable amount of chemistry between Archer and T'Pol onscreen..... and it really showed in "Twilight". But I ultimately like what one poster suggested that this episode was really more of a farewell to the Archer/T'Pol pairing. Because in the end.....it has got to be Trip and T'Pol!! Travis is dead!!! Travis is dead !!!! TRAVIS IS
DEAD!!!!! Archer only couldn't develop long term mermories to see if he could stand a chance with T'Pol!!! But Everyone knows she's in love with Trip Tucker!! She wouldn't look on Archer twice if he was the last man in the Universe!!! Didn't anyone hear what Pholox said? Vulcan CAN fall in love just like human's. This gives great hope that the relationship between Trip and T'Pol will all be one sided emotionally. Gr8 ep and pictures, i'm a brit so i havent seen it yet for real but this write up kept me on the edge of ym seat well done gr8 work in twilight t'pols hair is great she should so have it like that the whole time Return to Image Gallery menu |
