Commander T’Pol of Vulcan stood puzzled in the corridor. Her bond mate, Charles ‘Trip’ Tucker III, resident Chief Engineer, had just informed her moments ago, “This thing, between us…it’s not that big of a deal.” She had immediately agreed with him, but she was unsure what she was agreeing to. Did he really think a Vulcan mate bond was nothing? Or was he being sarcastic? After four years of serving upon Enterprise, humans were still making T’Pol stop and analysis their conversations. T’Pol had always found this quite interesting, but she would never admit it to anyone.

Then, Trip had then told her, “Guess we’ve got a lot of work to do.” He then sauntered off around the corner, grinning. Did he mean their new relationship or the ship? T’Pol sighed. “And wiping his mouth after we kissed? Was that a good or bad action?”

However, the most important piece of information that her bond mate had imparted was that he had requested a transfer back to Enterprise from Columbia, three days ago. “When did he have the time?” she mused.

To get the answers to her questions, the most logical choice of action was to go to the source himself. Pivoting around on her heel, T’Pol changed directions. She nodded at Captain Archer and Lt Reed as they passed her again in the hallway, noting they still look perplexed. “Just when the Captain thought he had me figured out.” She smirked. Then she sighed. The bond with Trip was going to make it a little harder to suppress her already surfaced emotions. She had almost…enjoyed toying with the Captain and the Lieutenant in Sickbay.

As she rounded the corner where she had lost sight of Trip moments earlier, she was dismayed to see that he wasn’t there waiting for her. Logically, the first place she looked was his quarters. He was not there. She closed her eyes, trying to locate him through their bond, but she could not. The bond was not strong enough yet. Sighing to herself again, T’Pol headed towards her own quarters. From there she could com Engineering to see if Commander Tucker was there. Punching the security code to her door, noting the panel was slightly askew; T’Pol entered her quarters and was greeted by the sight of dimmed lighting, lit meditation candles, and her bond mate sitting on her pillows, looking as if he was meditating.

Cracking an eye open, Trip told her, “Ya wanna know what I meant by our ‘thing’ not being a ‘big deal’ back there. And, what work? Right?” T’Pol inclined her head in the affirmative. She was not going to ask him how he entered her quarters. He was a brilliant engineer, and obliviously had found a way. “He probably took the panel off the wall and hotwired the door.”

Patting the empty space on the meditation pillow across from him, Trip grinned at her. “That’s correct, darlin’. Sit down, sweetheart, and I’ll explain.”

T’Pol realized that he could feel hear thoughts through the bond since they were in the same proximity. She sat herself in the place where he had motioned in the proper meditation position and waited for him to speak.

“I’ve been doin’ ma homework, t’hyla, with the help of some friends.” He began. T’Pol’s eyebrow cocked up at the Vulcan endearment. Grinning, Trip continued, “I figured t’hyla basically translates to darlin’. Right, darlin’? And you’d prefer t’hyla over darlin’.” he asked.

“That is basically correct, Trip.”

Trip grinned at her use of his nickname, “Anyways, this bond can only be created if both parties want it, right?”

Cocking her eyebrow at Trip again, she asked, “Who helped you and when did you have the time to do your ‘research’?”

“I’ve agreed not to reveal ma sources, but if you think ‘bout it logically, you’d figure out who it was. As for the time, I made the time from the minute you told me we were bonded. I’m not the ship’s resident insomniac for nothin’.” T’Pol looked impressed. “So,” he continued. “If I loved you and you loved me, therefore we bonded, it’s no big deal. We both wanted each other. I’ve told no one but your momma this, but I’ve wanted you since our first argument all those years ago. Knew we had chemistry way back then. I’d never had so much fun arguin’ with someone before.”

“You told my mother this.”

“Yeah. She cornered me in the kitchen while I was fixin’ her status unit. She told me that she knew we were romantically involved and next thing I knew I was spillin’ ma guts to her.”

“Interesting.” T’Pol quipped.

“Yeah, I know. Then she got me to admit to her that I was in love with you while I was dressing for your weddin’ to Koss.”

“You are in love with me?”

“Um, yeah. I just told ya that. Listen, t’hyla, I’m not expectin’ ya to tell me you love me. It’s not your way. I know you love me. You wanted our bond, even if it was subconsciously. I know you’re confused. Why would a Vulcan want to bond with a human? This inn’t about the differences in our species; this is about you and me.”

T’Pol looked amused at the logic coming from Trip. Noting her amusement, Trip said, “I think ya startin’ to rub off on me, t’hyla. Did I just spout some serious logic or what?”

“Indeed, Trip. We shall start taking on some of each other’s qualities that are more endearing. For example, you have started thinking more logically. I have picked up your sense of humor. The jokes I was amusing Captain Archer with in Sickbay. It seems that you and he are very close friends since he noticed my new trait immediately.”

“Yeah, that was funny. Poor Malcolm was in shock.” Trip laughed. “But, that’s what I meant by ‘no big deal’. For the work part, I did mean both, the ship and our relationship. Enterprise is a mess right now thanks to Kelby.” Trip continued before T’Pol could correct him. ”Yeah, I know it wasn’t really his fault. As for our relationship, we need to take this slow. No rushin’.”

“Agreed, Trip. We need to proceed nice and slow. Out bond will strengthen as we spend more time together and as we mate.”

“Mate?”

T’Pol’s eyes narrowed. “Mate. I know you understood me.”

Trip grinned. “It’s so much fun ribbing her.”

“Indeed. You seem to enjoy it immensely.”

“What the…?! That was cool!” Trip exclaimed aloud. “Can you hear me now?” he thought.

“Obviously.”

“This is is gunna be so much fun.”

“Indeed.”

Taking both her hands in his, Trip leaned forward and kissed T’Pol. He was pleased that she kissed him back. Rather passionately too. He immediately felt a rush of testosterone flood his body.

T’Pol felt it as well. Withdrawing slightly, she noted Trip wipe his mouth again. “Well, that answers my question about it being a good thing. He thoroughly enjoyed that.” Aloud she asked him, “Do you wish to mate, th’at aisha?”

“Th’at aisha?”

“My love.” She translated for him mentally. “We need to practice.”

“Vulcan or mating?” Trip teased her.

“Our bond. But we need to practice both. Other traditions as well.”

“I’m up for it.”

“Yes, I noticed.”

Grinning, Trip picked T’Pol up and deposited her on her bunk. “I’m up only for only you, t’hyla, only for you. We can practice Vulcan traditions later. For now, let me show you how humans express their love.”

And he proceeded to do just that.

Short but sweet. Some more, maybe, please? :)

This needs a sequel. We need to see Tri'Pol using thier bond to mess with and/or freak out the rest of the crew!

I loved this... This was great!!! I love how they're "taking it slow" ;)

"'What the…?! That was cool!' Trip exclaimed aloud. 'Can you hear me now?' he thought."

That had me laughing... It's so Trip! I wouldn't mind a sequel to this. :-)

;) Nice fic...I agree with the others that a sequel would be great... I'd love to see them messing with each other using their bond.

Loved it! Definately would enjoy a sequel

these things are always too short! Would definitely love to see this extended........

I can just picture Trip going about the ship saying to T'Pol telepathically........ "Can you hear me now?” "Can you hear me now?

ROTFLMAO. Good fic too!

"'What the…?! That was cool!' Trip exclaimed aloud. 'Can you hear me now?' he thought." LOL!! :) One of the most amusing fics I've ever read. Very good.

That was a cute story.

Oohh, very, very cute. :)

id like 2 see TnT playing some practical jokes on their shipmates... one saying something over the comm while the other says it to the addressee in person :D
anyway, i totally agree with the others in wanting a sequel.
Very well written!

that was kinda crap
its the same as all the other bound ones

Very cute, loved the banter and the flirtin' between them. Refreshing. Thank you.

very nice.
and trip knows the over ride code possibly for the whole ship since he is the chief engineer.
we see him use it in rajiin to come to tpol's aid.

Stasis unit! Not 'status unit'!
