He wiped the sweat from his forehead with a rag leaving a dark smudge. He’d been working for hours without a break.

“You’re going to work yourself to death, you know,” a voice behind him said. He dropped his spanner in surprise causing the tool to clang against the deck as he turned quickly to discover Hoshi standing in front of him.

“Jesus, Hoshi. Don’t do that. Ya scared th’ life outta me,” he said, visibly relaxing.

“Can’t you see what this is doing to you, Trip? It’s tearing you apart. You miss her…you miss them both,” she said.

“I don’ know what yer talkin’ about,” he said picking up the spanner and examining it for any damage.

“Don’t close up, Trip. I know you miss the Sub-Commander…whether your willing to admit it or not,” she said.

“Where’s Lieutenant Hess?” he asked, changing the subject abruptly.

“She left hours ago, and when she was walking down the corridor, we bumped into each other. She went on and on about how you weren’t out of Engineering for more than four hours a day…and it was always running reports to the Captain,” she replied. “Trip, you have to stop this. You’re slowly destroying yourself. I know it wasn’t easy when the Sub-Commander left…and what happened with Lizzie…you must feel so lost right now…”

“Cut the psychology crap, Hoshi. It’s the last thing I need righ’ now,” he snapped.

Hoshi glared at him, her rage boiling dangerously close to the surface. “I care about you too much to watch you do this to yourself, Trip,” she said. She paused briefly. “She’s coming aboard you know. She should be here within the half hour.”

He frowned and his throat constricted, his heart beating wildly in his chest. “Is she bringin’ that husband o’ hers?” he said, spitting the word ‘husband’ acidly.

“No. She didn’t marry him,” she countered.

He turned to her hiding his surprise with a chuckle. “’S tha’ right? I expected them to be waitin’ on a kid by now at th’ very least,” he replied tartly.

She shook her head. “She wants to see you,” she added.

He put on an unemotional front hoping to deflect any further inquiry into the matter. “I wonder why she would want ta see me?” he queried flippantly.

“She wants to talk to you about something ‘of great importance’, or so she says,” she replied.

He turned to her looking scandalized. “Readin’ my mail now, are ya? Wha’s next? Spyin’ on me in the shower?” he said raising an eyebrow.

“It was an audio communication,” she said, the resentment in her tone obvious. He turned back to his work without as much as a by-your-leave. “Do you see what this has done to you? You’ve become a monster,” She said.

The truth stung painfully, but the hurt turned quickly to anger. He whipped his attention back to her, the rage in his features plain. “Damn it, Hoshi! Ah’ve told ya a million times ta let me alone, but ya can’t take a hint, can ya darlin’?” He chuckled, and She looked at him as though he had finally gone over the edge. “Can’ ya see that I don’ care anymore? T’Pol can do whatever in th’ hell she wants. It’s her damn life. If she wants to while it away on Vulcan surrounded by Satan’s brood, it ‘ain’t none o’ my business.’ ”

She stiffened and before he could stop her, slammed her open hand across his cheek. He staggered slightly from the blow, looking up at her awestruck. “I’ve had enough of your sorry-ass attitude, Charles Tucker. Now you get your head out of your ass and do something to straighten yourself up or I’ll come after you with conduit stripping and my morohanotsurugi!” she shouted.

With this, she turned on her heel and stormed out of the Engine Room, leaving him to his thoughts. A smile crossed his lips as he realized she was right. ‘Thank God for small favors,’ he thought. He brought to fingers to his lips and discovered blood.

‘If her swordsmanship is half as good as her open hand, I don’t think I wanna find out what kinda tricks she can do,’ he thought.

He stood slowly and went to the comm. panel on the wall. “Tucker to Hess,” he said, waiting for the Lieutenant to answer.

“Hess here. What’s up, Chief?” the voice on the other side of the comm. replied.

“Hey, Anna. I need ya ta do me a favor,” he said.

“And what might that be, Commander?” Hess asked. He chuckled knowing that the Lieutenant was probably smiling like a Cheshire cat on the other side of the comm. panel.

“Ah’m expected an old friend and they wanna talk. Do ya think you could manage Engineerin’ fer a bit ‘til I can get back?” He requested.

He heard a chuckle on the other end. “Sure thing, Chief,” Hess said, pausing before adding “Have fun, boss.”

He chuckled. “You, too Anna,” he said. “And if I find the engine coils on my babies even slightly out of alignment, you’ll be doin’ the repairs.”

Hess laughed. “No problem, Chief,” she replied. “And if I catch you messing with them, I’ll come after you myself with Ensign Sato’s double-bladed sword.”

He chuckled. “Tucker out,” he replied, his mirth turning into full blown laughter as he imagined Hess poking her tongue out at him. He cut the comm. and exited Enginneering headed for his quarters.

A half hour later…

He and Captain Archer stood outside the airlock, awaiting her arrival. At last, the hatch door opened revealing the former First Officer.

His lips turned up at first, but his mouth hung open slightly as the happiness turned to awe. There before him stood the woman who’d haunted his dreams, sleeping and waking, looking spectacularly elegant in a salmon-colored catsuit that clung to her curves leaving almost nothing to the imagination.

He slowly perused her body with his eyes, at last coming to her face and chocolaty brown eyes. Her ears poked out from silky russet-colored hair, which was longer than was her usual style. The beautifully exotic strands hung loosely at her shoulders, framing her face angelically.

Noticing Commander Tucker’s gaze she quickly averted her eyes, a slight flush appearing in her cheeks. “Welcome aboard, Sub-Commander,” Archer said, nodding at her.

“Captain,” T’Pol acknowledged. She then turned her gaze to Trip. “Commander Tucker.”

He closed his mouth and frowned slightly at the cold edge to her voice. “So what brings you aboard, Sub-Commander?” Archer asked smiling warmly.

“I have a matter of consequence I wish to discuss with Commander Tucker,” she replied.

He turned to Archer and caught the mischievous twinkle in his friend’s eye. Archer nodded. “I’ll count on him to get you settled then,” Archer said. Archer paused. “It’s good to have you back on board, T’Pol,” he said.

She raised an eyebrow. “It is pleasing to be back aboard, sir,” she replied. Archer smiled and nodded before leaving her and Trip alone.

“So what did ya wanna talk ta me about?” he asked.

“Perhaps we should discuss this in your quarters,” she replied.

This time, it was his turn to raise an eyebrow. “Ya sure ‘bout that, now? It’s sorta inappropriate, don’t ya think?” he drawled.

“I am no longer the First Officer of this vessel. Therefore, as we are both of equivalent rank, it is quite appropriate,” she countered.

He pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek and nodded before extending his hand forward in a gentlemanly gesture. “After you, Sub-Commander,” he offered.

She raised an eyebrow and walked ahead of him, nodding in approval at the gesture, he following closely behind.

“So,” he said breaking the silence. “How’ve ya been?”

She paused for a moment. “I have been…well,” she replied.

“Sorry ‘bout you an’ tha’ Koss fella,” he said.

She nodded. “My refusal to continue with the ceremony displeased him,” she said.

Trip nodded. “So…if you don’t mind me asking, why didn’t you go through with it?” he asked.

“I have ‘unfinished business’,” she said eyeing him.

If he didn’t know any better, he’d swear the look in her eyes was one of approval.

He cleared his throat. “So…you came all this way…ta talk ta me, huh?” he asked.

She nodded. “Among other things: to talk, yes,” she replied.

He nodded and fell silent. At last, they reached his quarters and he motioned her inside before entering after her.

“Sorry ‘bout th’ mess,” he said. “I wasn’ quite expectin’ company.”

She raised an eyebrow and looked at the clothing and PADDs strewn about the cabin. He sat down on the edge of the bed, patting the spot next to him indicating for her to sit down. To his chagrin, she did so within a moment of his request.

“So,” he began, breaking the tense silence between them. “What did you want ta talk ta me about?”

She laid her hand gently on top of his, causing his head to shoot up and his eyes to lock with hers. “T’Pol,” he whispered.

She leaned slowly toward him, closing her eyes. He sighed, closing his own as he felt her warm breath on his lips. Ever so lightly, she brushed her lips over his, causing a shiver to run down his spine. Carefully, he put a hand on the back of her neck, increasing the contact of their lips. A moment later, both pulled back opening their eyes and looking at one another slightly wide eyed.

“Did you just…did I just…did we just…” he stuttered.

She nodded and paused. “You reciprocated the contact,” she said in slight surprise.

“And you initiated it, darlin’,” he said.

“Indeed,” she whispered.

“Why?” he asked, breathlessly.

She shook her head slightly, not breaking eye contact. “I do not know,” she replied.

“Is this what you wanted ta tell me. That you want…” he began.

She nodded. “Yes, but I did not intend for it to involve such contact,” she muttered.

“And ta be honest, it was th’ las’ thing I’d expect from ya,” Trip said running his free hand through his hair.

“I…I have missed your presence,” she whispered, her voice shaking slightly.

He smiled weakly. “Ah’ve missed ya, too, T’Pol,” he said. “God knows I haven’t had a decent night’s sleep since ya left.”

She looked at him slightly alarmed. “I apologize if my departure has harmed your health. Are you ill?” she asked.

He smiled. “No. At least not now tha’ yer back,” he said laying his freehand on her cheek.

She closed her eyes at the feel of his warm hand on her face. He leaned forward so that his mouth was near her ear. “Stay here, T’Pol,” he whispered. “Please. I don’t think I could stand to watch you go again. Please stay with me.”

“I have duties…Trip,” she whispered back, her words shaky from feeling his breath in her ear.

“Request a transfer. Cap’n Archer’s been looking for an excuse to bring you back aboard,” he whispered.

“What about the current Science Officer?” she asked.

“Cap’n Archer can recommend her for a position aboard the Columbia. She should be leavin’ dock in a few months and Cap’n Hernandez still needs a Science Officer,” he replied.

She nodded. “I will speak to him,” she spoke softly.

He smiled and chuckled, sliding the hand on her cheek down to her waist and pulling her close to him, his lips millimeters from hers. “Good,” he murmured. “I believe you and I have a li’l unfinished business to take care of.”

She raised an eyebrow. “And what ‘business’ might that be?” she asked coyly.

“This business,” he whispered, devouring her lips hungrily.
She sighed and relaxed into him, responding with equal intensity. “Promise me something,” he whispered against her lips.

“Yes?” she replied.

“Promise me that you’ll be mine forever,” he said.

She nodded. “I promise,” she gasped.

He smiled. “I love ya so much, T’Pol,” he whispered.

She pulled back and placed two fingers on his lips. “And I you, Trip,” she whispered.

He smiled, holding her close to him. Slowly, the two lay down on the bed and he gathered her into his arms, holding her close. He smiled at the warmth of her back snugly placed against his chest. He rested his chin on her shoulder and breathed in her exotic scent. They lay there drifting off to sleep with her hands on top of his, which lie on her lower stomach. Within moments, they forgot everything but each other as they slipped into the land of dreams.

Awwww, that's just beautiful.

Sweet alternate Universe Fic.

that was beautiful, makes me teary eyed. I know everyone thinks T'pol's Eyes are brown, but they're not. Jolene Blalock's eyes are actually Green, i know its not that easy to tell on TV.

Awwwwwwww, Trip couldn't sleep without his Polly! Poor guy! Something tells me he sleeps a lot better now though! LOL

Awwwww, that was so beautiful. It is wonderful to see that T'pol has missed him to and hopefully things will get back to normal.

Very sweet. The kiss gave me tingles. I loved the Hoshi slap! 'Bout time someone smacked some sense into our lovely Engineer.

That was so sweet. Thank You for sharing this.

It made my day. Their relationship should end that way. Very heartwarming, indeed.

is there anyway these could be saved as PDF files??

well, now that I've cooled off a little ;-) I wanted to make just a few tiny comments on things that niggled at me as I read it....last time I looked "corpulent" meant "fat". I wouldn't want mine called FAT!!! How about "lush"?? makes it sound a whole lot more erotic.......and between you and me I hope I never hear Connor/Trip say "dang" every. JMHO.

This was lovely, moved faster than I expected once T'Pol was on board. So happy she decided to follow her heart and come back to him. Sigh. Ali D :~)
