“How’s Liz these days?” asked Crewman Sue Biggs, as she reached back for a coil spanner so she could carry on repairing the Navigation console on Columbia’s bridge.

“She’s doing fine,” replied Crewman Abby Rivers, passing the tool over. “Apparently Doctor Phlox put in a recommendation to Starfleet Medical for her to begin medical training, and she’s been accepted. She starts there next week.”

“That’s great news. She deserves it after what she went through in the Expanse. Did she mention anything else?” asked Sue, coyly.

“About …?” teased Abby, knowing too well what Sue was referring to.

“Our new Chief Engineer,” replied Sue. “I know damn well that was the reason why you comm'd her in the first place. You were digging for info.”

Abby smiled, Sue knew her too well. “Apparently the man is hotness personified with a bod to die for,” she replied with a twinkle in her eye.

Sue rolled her eyes, “Honestly, you two …” she laughed, “you’re incorrigible. Come on, spill. What’s he like?”

“Liz described him as the perfect candy treat,” chuckled Abby. “Soft centred and mellow like your favourite piece of milk chocolate, with a pair of baby blues and a dreamy smile that have a ‘melt in your mouth’ effect on you,” she sighed, as she envisaged him in her mind.

“Mmmmmm …… can’t wait,” said Sue, joining in.

--------------------------------------------

“Biggs, Strong … I want you to recalibrate the field stabilizers.” lectured Trip, a little frustrated by the state of the ship. Rivers and Pierce … you’ll start with the injector assembly. This bucket of bolts was supposed to leave dry dock six months ago. I guarantee you … Columbia’s gonna warp out of orbit before the week’s over. Let’s get to work.”

Abby and Sue moved off to the side to get started, as Trip turned around to talk to Captain Erika Hernandez, who had just entered Engineering. “Soft centred … mellow …” said Sue quietly. “More like a piece of hard dark chocolate whose tough toffee interior cuts into your teeth causing endless cavities and constant pain,” she said, emphasising the last words.

-------------------------------------------

“You certainly know how to motivate the troops,” said Erika.

“We’ll be pulling triple shifts if we’re gonna meet this new launch date.”

“You still need to eat. Captain’s Mess. Tomorrow … eighteen hundred hours. We’ll trade stories about your former C.O.”

“I’ll be there,” replied Trip, turning around to get back to the task at hand.

“Commander … drop by the Quartermaster’s at the end of your shift.”

“Ma’am?”

She tapped the Columbia mission patch on her sleeve at Trip’s questioning look. “You might want to update your uniform?”

“Aye, Captain,” replied Trip.

Erika weighed him up as her thoughts pondered over the transfer requests she had already received from two crewmen during the short time Trip had been on board. He certainly was an enigma, completely different personality wise from what she had heard. She compared him to one of her favourite wafer candy treats. “Once you reach under that crisp, sharp exterior, there’s a multitude of layers each hiding their own secret flavour just waiting to surprise you,” she thought. “What have I let myself in for …

------------------------------------------

A few hours later

Trip glanced up from his desk, expecting to see various crewmembers hard at work as they tirelessly ran around to get the ship ready. Instead, much to his surprise, he found himself in a vast white space. “Is this a dream?”

“I’m meditating … this is where I go in my mind,” explained T’Pol, startling Trip who looked surprised to see her there.

“I would’ve thought you’d pick a place a little more interesting … like a beach … or those Fire Plains you showed me.

“Please leave.”

“Where exactly am I supposed to go?” answered Trip, throwing his hands up in the air.

“Away.”

“This is my daydream … why don’t you go away?” said Trip, stubbornly.

“You’re the illusion.”

“Are you sure about that?”

“Excuse me, Commander?” said Crewman Abby Rivers, startling Trip out of his, unknown telepathic connection with T’Pol.

“Is everything all right, Sir?”

“Yeah … I’m fine,” replied Trip, a bit confused over what had just happened as he took a PADD from her before glancing back once again to his workstation terminal.

You may well try to crack on that you’re one tough nut,” thought Trip sadly to himself, “but just like that milk chocolate candy Lizzie used to like, she’s got ya well and truly whipped. A honeycombed nest, aching passionately for a queen who’d once laid claim to its now empty centre.

-------------------------------------------------

Meanwhile on Enterprise

T’Pol opened her eyes, a little disturbed by the odd experience in the white room, as she had never experienced anything like that before during her nightly mediation sessions. Since Commander Tucker had transferred to Columbia a few days earlier, her emotions were constantly trying to force their way through to the surface, forcing her nightly mediation sessions to ease her mind back into balance, into more of a task than relief. Strange also, was the increasingly illogical craving growing inside her for the sweet tasting feel of Chef’s sugary, mouth watering, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate candy treats.

This was fun! Interesting comparisons depending on the individual's perspective. Very enjoyable!

Liked it a lot.

Now I'm hungry. Let's see now... I got some Ferrero Rocher for Valentine's Day. Where'd I hide the stuff?

Now I know what the expression "magically delicious" means. I think Trip is really the first candy described, but only for T'Pol. For the rest he is probably as tough and rubbery as licerious. Nice one. T.

I had already read this on the TrekBBS ENT challenge and absolutely loved it... it's so cute... plus I'm addicted to chocolate and the whole candy descriptions kinda got to me :p

Uh... wouldn't wanna eat Trip though :x (No offense Trip)

"Magically delicious" indeed. Nicely done! :)

Chocolate and Trip sounds like T'Pol a gonner.
Green blood or not what woman could resist?
