Emperor Charles sat down and took a deep breath. The worse part was over. The remaining Captains in Starfleet pledged their allegiance to him. “That went better than I expected.”

Empress T’Pol nodded her head. “Indeed. I had not expected to receive the full support of Starfleet.”

“I think they’re mostly focused on the people back home. Almost everyone has family there. Fighting the rebellion has been tough on them. They’ll support me as long as I can make things better at home.”

“In what way? When we were on Earth, conditions seemed quite good.”

Charles’ face turned sad. “We were isolated both times. Since my father was the North American Governor, we weren’t exposed to problems most people face.” He paused and took a deep breath. “There’s widespread food shortages and unemployment is high. It’s especially bad in Asia since the empire’s power base is North America and Central Europe. The Imperial Senate didn’t really care about Asia… Lucky for us, Admiral Gardner and Admiral Black were both reformers and put sympathetic people in command. That’s why the Captains will support me. I think they’ll support you as long as we can get your people out of the rebellion.”

“Do you really believe my people will accept your demand for surrender?”

Charles laughed. “It’s hardly a demand T’Pol. In exchange for stopping their rebellion, they become full citizens in the empire. I think I’m being pretty generous. How could they turn it down?”

“My people have faced brutal oppression by Terrans. Now you expect them to simply accept membership into the same empire responsible for their enslavement?”

“When you put it like that, of course not.”

T’Pol turned to face him. “Put it in a way they will.”

“I will make the same offer to your people I made to you. Join me. Stand beside me. We’ll rule together.”

“My people do not know you like I do. They have no reason to trust you.”

That caused Charles to laugh. “That’s pretty funny T’Pol. I never expected you to say you trust me. A lot’s changed over the years, hasn’t it?”

T’Pol caressed the left side of his face. “Yes it has.”

“When we first met, could you have ever imagined we’d wind up here?”

“No. When we first met, I thought only of killing you and escaping back home.”

Charles winced. “That hurts. You know I had nothing to do with that. Didn’t I do everything I could to make your life tolerable? We both know you could have wound up with a lot worse than me.”

“I did not intend that as an insult. I was simply stating a fact. At that time my primary goal was escape.”

A thoughtful expression came over Charles face and he took a deep breath. “I know. That’s why I never told anyone you tried to kill me.”

“You were not the primary target.” T’Pol’s voice was thick with emotion. “I attempted to end both our misery.”

Charles chuckled slightly. “Yeah, who would have thought getting promoted and being given a beautiful Vulcan female slave would have ruined my life?”

T’Pol shifted her weight back to relax. They talked about their first days together.

Five years earlier…

T’Pol watched Admiral Gardner shake his head. “Frank, this is probably the most hair-brained of your schemes.”

Admiral Black chuckled a bit. “Think about it Jack, there’s no downside. We’re the only three that know. Who’s going to believe her over us? If someone questions me, I’ll just say I’m trying to get in good with Governor Tucker by replacing his son’s servant–especially since we’re promoting him at the same time. I can say she must be spying for the rebellion. We’re the only ones who know I sent her to spy on Forrest and Tucker.”

T’Pol tried desperately to control her anger. They were talking right in front of her as if she wasn’t there. But Admiral Black made it clear she had to serve him. The Orions had very effective means of persuading their slaves to cooperate and Black allowed Haraad-Sur a brief demonstration. Once the demonstration was complete, it took hours for her to separate reality from the delusions in her head caused by the torture.

“Okay, Frank. But if this blows up in your face, you’re on your own. I won’t be able to protect you on this one.”

Admiral Black just nodded his head in agreement.

Fifteen minutes later a tall, young, blonde haired Terran walked into Admiral Black’s office. He stiffened to attention almost immediately. “Lt. Commander Tucker reporting as ordered.”

“At ease Mr. Tucker. Please have a seat.”

“Thank you sir.”

Admiral Gardner spoke first. “How is your father Charles? Did he receive my gift?”

“He’s doing well sir. He told me to pass along his gratitude. The boots fit perfectly. He hasn’t had a pair fit right since he left Andoria.”

Admiral Black then took his turn. “Lt. Commander, I want to express how much I appreciate your effort and the loss of your servant. She performed admirably and her service reflects highly on you.”

“Thank you sir.”

“Without her sacrifice, we would have lost the Hornet and the remaining 52 of its crew. You trained her well. In recognition of your service, you are to be promoted to Commander.”

T’Pol saw a smile come across Charles Tucker’s face. It appeared to light up the room.

“In addition, I would like to personally show you my appreciation by replacing your servant.”

Admiral Black pointed to T’Pol.

“Her name is Ensign T’Pol. I’ve owned her for some time but I would like to give her to you. I’ve already started the transfer of ownership paperwork.”

T’Pol saw him look her up and down. He appeared to try to hide a frown as he did so.

“I appreciate the gesture sir, but I can’t accept your gift. It’s far too generous. She’s got to be worth a lot.”

“Nonsense, Commander Tucker. Ah’len was a highly skilled engineer, thanks to you. T’Pol is no more valuable than she was. I insist.”

Admiral Black paused for a moment.

“Besides, you are going to need her. In two weeks you’re going to transfer to Enterprise. She’s the first of the Avenger-class and it’s your job to get her up and running.”

T’Pol saw his eyes open wide.

“Yes, that’s right. You’ll be the first Chief Engineer of the Avenger-class.”

“Thank you sir, that’s quite an honor.”

Admiral Gardner walked over to shake Charles’ hand. “You deserve it son. You’re the best we got.”

She saw him blush.

Admiral Gardner continued. “That’s why you’ll need her. You’re going to need all the help you can get to get her out of dock. We need Enterprise ready as soon as possible.”

Admiral Black rose to also shake Charles’ hand. “Good luck, Mr. Tucker… Dismissed.”

As they turned to leave, Admiral Black said to Charles, “Mr. Tucker, there is one condition for accepting my gift. I will let T’Pol discuss it with you. If you feel you cannot meet the obligation, please let me know. I will try to make other arrangements.” She saw him smile at Charles. “However, I think once you hear the condition, I doubt you’ll have any problem fulfilling your obligation.”

Charles said nothing as he showed her to their quarters. He seemed to be lost in thought. When they arrived he opened the door and showed her in.

“It’s kind of small. The Hornet wasn’t made for officers with servants.”

T’Pol faced him. “Why not? I thought all command rank officers had them.”

“Where’d you get that idea? Only Admirals and above may own servants. I’m a special case because my father is a governor.”

He looked around the room. He pointed to a mattress on the floor. “That’s where you’ll sleep.”

He took her over to a small closet. “Put your stuff in there. If you need any sleeping gowns, there are three in the closet. You should be able to fit them. You don’t look any bigger than Ah’len.”

He walked over to his bunk and sat down. He scratched his head. “My family’s never owned a Vulcan before. But we have Vulcan crew so I’m sure we’ve got the right food. Is there anything else you need?”

“There is one minor convenience but it is not important. I can do without, if I had to.”

“What is it? I’ll see what I can do.”

“Vulcans need to meditate. It will be easier if I have a candle.”

He frowned at her. “A candle? That’s it?”

“Yes.”

“I can get you a candle. Any special size or color?”

“No.”

“Okay. I’ll get you one tomorrow.”

“Thank you sir.”

She heard him sigh. “T’Pol, when we’re here, you can call me Charles. Outside, call me Commander or Mr. Tucker. It’ll be easier for you to fit in.”

“Yes s… Charles.”

“So, what’s the condition of me keeping you? So far you haven’t asked for anything special.”

T’Pol took a deep breath and did as she had been trained. She walked over to Charles, knelt in front of him and looked at his feet. “All Vulcans go through a seven year mating cycle once they reach maturity. I am nearing that time and will have to mate with another.”

“Uh huh… Okay… But I don’t see how I can help you with that. Like I said, my family doesn’t own any Vulcans.”

“It is not necessary for the male to be a Vulcan. A Terran will do.”

T’Pol heard him gasp.

“You mean…”

“Yes Charles. Admiral Black’s condition is that you mate with me. By law, once that happens, I am your possession.”

He sat silent for several minutes. She almost risked looking at his face before he spoke.

“What happens if I don’t mate with you?”

“Admiral Black will need to find a male who will. I will then become his possession.”

“Why?”

“Vulcans must mate or die.”

“You could die!?!”

“Yes Charles. That is why it is critical for Admiral Black to find a suitable mate for me.”

She heard him take a deep breath. “When do I have to make a decision?”

T’Pol was stunned. He sounded like he was unsure. Admiral Black led her to believe that her primary role outside of engineering would be to satisfy his sexual needs. He sounds like he was unsure he would even to ‘save her life’.

“There is some time yet. I do not believe I will be consumed by Pon’farr for several weeks. I believe the Admiral would prefer a decision as soon as possible if he has to make other arrangements.”

She heard him mutter several expletives. This might be harder than she thought.

She felt him reach down toward her. He tilted her head to the side and brushed the hair away from her neck.

“Great. Just what I need.”

T’Pol was confused.

“Black got you from the Orions didn’t he? He hasn’t owned you very long at all has he?”

She was unsure how to answer. She decided not to lie since he already guessed. “How did you know?”

“I’d recognize that scar anywhere. It’s from a controller. It looks new.”

She nodded her head.

“I thought something was funny about this. I’ve never seen a Vulcan female in person before. I didn’t think you even left your home world.”

“Vulcan females only rarely leave Vulcan. I was a student on a holiday when I was taken and brought here.” She heard him mumble a set of expletives.

“By the looks of you, you’ve probably never worked a day in your life have you?”

“No.” She heard another set of mumbled expletives.

“What did you study?”

“Mathematics.”

“Do you know Warp mechanics?”

“Yes. As well as subspace harmonics.”

“Good. Maybe you won’t be as useless as I thought.”

She heard him flop down on the bunk. “Hit the lights T’Pol. I’m taking a nap. My head is killing me.” She heard him mutter several more expletives before his breathing evened out and she knew he was asleep.

Two weeks later T’Pol was becoming worried. Charles still had not made up his mind. Even more troubling, not once had he attempted to use her to satisfy his needs. He spent all day training her on the Warp engine and they normally spent the evening reading technical documentation and her meditating. In fact, he even insisted she change from her uniform to the full-length sleeping gown in the small washroom attached to his quarters. She had never even seen him in less than a T-shirt and shorts. He had never seen her in less than her uniform. The sleeping gown covered more.

She had to figure out what was wrong. She centered herself and did what was expected of her. She walked over to his bunk and knelt by it.

She saw him turn to sit up. “What is it T’Pol?”

“Have I displeased you?”

“No. Of course not. Why’d you say that? So far you’ve done great in engineering. A lot better than I expected.”

“You have not indicated that you will satisfy my Pon’farr. You have not allowed me to… attend to any of your physical needs.”

She heard him sigh.

“Is that what this is about?”

She simply nodded.

“T’Pol, I told Admiral Black two days ago I would do it… I can’t let you die and I can’t refuse his gift. So I’ll have to do it.”

“You sound reluctant.”

He took another deep breath. “Don’t worry when the time comes, I’ll mate with you. I’m not going to let you die.”

She moved her hands to his thighs began to rub gently. “Would you not like my attention prior to that time? I am certain the experience would be pleasurable for you.” She only hoped she could correctly apply the techniques Navaar demonstrated.

He did something that stunned her. He hopped off the bunk and sat down on the floor beside her. He pulled her chin up so she would face him.

“T’Pol, this never leaves the two of us. I wasn’t going to tell you this, but I can see you’re worried. I’m only going to have sex with you to keep you alive.”

“Is there something wrong with me? Is it because I am Vulcan?”

“No. It has nothing to do with you at all. You see, I’m engaged to someone back home. Her name is Natalie and she’s the most wonderful person in the whole universe. I love her more than anything and we’re going to get married in a year or so. I promised her a long time ago that I wouldn’t have sex with Ah’len. It’s important to me that she knows I only make love to her. If I didn’t need to have sex with you, I wouldn’t.”

“But you agreed to satisfy my Pon’farr? How will she react?”

He sighed and looked up to the ceiling. “I hope I can explain it to her. If it’s a choice between you dying or keeping my promise, I hope she’ll understand. I think she’ll be hurt, but I think we can work through it.”

“Why keep this a secret? It seems like an honorable promise?”

Charles smiled at her. “No one would believe me. Everyone just assumes that’s what your role is. My dad even expects it. It was easier for us to just play along. Even now, the Admiral has made a couple comments about you.”

He leaned back against his bunk. “You know, while we’re on the ship, you don’t have to kneel or keep your eyes down. I don’t really care for all that crap. My only rule while were in my quarters is you can’t get on my bunk. I don’t care if you use the chair to sit.”

“I was certain you were going to send me back to Admiral Black after two weeks,” T’Pol’s voice was barely above a whisper.

Charles smiled. “Believe me, I would’ve liked to. I had a bad feeling about you,” he chuckled as he ran two fingers along the tip of her ear.

T’Pol closed her eyes as she focused on the sensation. “I did not believe you when you told me of your promise to Natalie. I fully expected my role would primarily consist of satisfying your sexual needs.”

Charles laughed. “You can’t imagine how hard it was keeping that promise to Natalie. I could’ve used you and she would’ve never known. I wanted so much to show her I wasn’t like my father. I wanted her to know she would never share me with another woman. In the end, though, I guess, it was just too incredible to believe. I mean look at you? How could anyone in their right mind resist?”

“You had no trouble keeping the promise with Ah’len.”

Charles moved his eyes to look away from her. She could tell Ah’len’s loss still bothered him after all these years. “That was different. She was like my sister. We grew up together… Hell, her mother practically raised me. My mom and dad weren’t around a lot when I was growing up. I didn’t want her replaced. I didn’t think I could go through that again. But dad insisted I get another personal servant. Of course, he wanted me to have an Andorian, not a Vulcan.”

“Is that why Admiral Black almost took me away from you before Enterprise left dock?”

“Yeah, my father put a lot of pressure on him. He was pretty pissed at Black for giving me a Vulcan. Dad’s always had a preference for Andorians. Something about the antennae I guess.” He paused to place gentle kiss on the back of her left hand. “Not me. The blue skin is just too weird. I guess it’s a good thing Black wanted to spy on Forrest. He stood his ground.”

“Indeed.” T’Pol smiled back at him.

He returned her gaze with a smile. “I guess your unique skills gave you the chance to make sure you never shared my affection another woman.”

T’Pol leaned toward him. “Just relax and focus on my mind. You should not feel any discomfort.” She placed her fingers on both sides of his face. After a few seconds, she scowled at him. “I cannot initiate the meld if you do not relax and concentrate on my mind.”

“It’s pretty tough to relax with you sitting on my groin getting ready to go in my head.” He laughed softly. “The part of you holding my attention is quite a bit south of your mind.”

T’Pol took a deep breath and gave him a slightly annoyed look. “I understand that. But I need to repair the damage. The process will be exhausting for the both of us. We need to be comfortable.”

“How did you do it before? You said you’ve done this hundreds of times. How’d you get me to relax and concentrate before?”

T’Pol again shifted her weight back. She looked down at his midsection. She couldn’t face him. “You did not. I simply forced my way in…” She paused to collect herself. “Raping your mind in that way is what caused the damage. I cannot repair the damage by forcing my way in. T’Pau showed me what to do, but you have to accept me in for the repair to work.”

Charles reached up and pulled her down on top of him. He held her tightly and whispered in her ear, “It’s okay… I’m sure you’ll be able to fix me up good as new. I’m not pissed at you anymore… How about we try on our sides, facing each other? That way we’ll both be relaxed…” An evil grin came across his face. “Or…”

T’Pol was certain she knew his suggestion.

“You could wear me out like before. I’m sure I’ll be pretty relaxed after two or three rounds.”

“That sounds logical.”

Sometime later, Charles was considerably more relaxed. T’Pol was able to enter the meld with ease and begin to repair some of the damage she caused.
