The Preview (PART 2)

By THECURSOR

Spoilers for Home.

Rating: G
Genre: General

TThR: In celebration of my return to college, my first fic after a summer of endless crap work is gonna be a response to all the hubbub surrounding T’Pol’s “will she, won’t she” Spoilers and the man most responsible for this period of uncertainty. BTW, it’s nice to get back to what I love: writing mildly funny stuff on my trusty but never dependable Gateway EV700.

A/N: This isn’t really a sequel to my first “Preview” so much as a homage to my own work. I liked writing the first Preview so much that this seemed like a natural thing to do with all the spoilers running around. It’s short but good.

~~~~~
I am Koss, of Vulcan, and as my episode as not yet aired, I suppose I should preempt many of the harsh feelings that will inevitably emanate from this primitive electronic bulletin board you humans huddle around like primordial hunter-gatherers around a campfire.
To begin with, I am not sorry or remorseful of my current situation as it was neither my choice to become involved or within my ability to do so if it were. I am a Vulcan and therefore beyond things like “remorse”. I have no emotions and no ability to harbor illogical feelings of guilt. My ‘desire’ to marry T’Pol stems purely from familial obligation, thus I have not purposefully offended you, and thus you should not criticize me for the disruption I have created in her romantic endeavors. I have never met her so how can I willfully cause her harm?
However I understand your anger. You wish to see her relationship between the T’Pol and this human she has become involved with, I believe he calls himself…Trick or Tripod or something equally inappropriate, continue with no obstacles.
And I represent an obstacle.
But please attempt to consider my position: I was betrothed to Ms. T’Pol in a legally binding contract previously negotiated by our parents for the sake of fulfilling certain procreative and social obligations owed to our race. T’Pol was given more then the necessary amount of time required to advance her career to a position comfortable enough to withstand a year long absence and I certainly have already made more then the necessary preparations for the betrothal I thought was inevitable. I consider all of my matters of family honor extremely important and regardless of what you may think of Vulcan ways, this is a tradition I do not intend to break.
I do sympathize with the Sub-Commander’s predicament, I myself was once involved with a woman I worked with. Her name was Kelta, she was a college I grew quite fond of in my student years and that personal preference only grew as time passed. She was strong and confident, a strict follower of the path towards enlightenment with an architectural talent that may very well have surpassed my own. For a very short period she and I participated in a very brief affair that defied the laws of my people and my heritage. But I ended that affair because of my obligations to T’Pol and I expect the same devotion to our marital agreement from her.
In the eyes of our people, my willingness to accept T’Pol’s hand in matrimony is considered to be quite noble. Her reputation has been quite sullied in recent years and the rumors of her contracting a degenerative nerve illness is also not far from my mind or many of those among my community. I am doing her a service, allowing her a chance to redeem herself in the eyes of her people.
She should be thanking me.
But I doubt you see that perspective, do you humans? You do not understand what it means to be Vulcan do you? You merely look at our ways and complain they are cold and archaic. You preach do us about the unfairness of tearing two “star crossed lovers” apart when they had little in common to begin with and were well on their way to creating an intergalactic incident by simply risking the possibility of procreation.
I do not understand how an entire species could be so…irrational. You should not be so hostile to my impending nuptials, they are meant to be a happy occasion.
Or as happy as a vulcan ceremony can be.
Lovely, sad, but lovely! I love this fic, I'm pretty sure everyone who knows the spoilers for this hates Koss with a passion, (I just dislike him) and wants to see him gone. I like the way you took his side of the issue, and showed it from his point of view. And really, I doubt he's an evil guy... he's just a clueless Vulcan obsessed with the path of Surak. LOL Very nice CURSOR!
"However I understand your anger. You wish to see her relationship between the T’Pol and this human she has become involved with, I believe he calls himself…Trick or Tripod or something equally inappropriate, continue with no obstacles."
*sound of sharpening lirpa*
What an interesting point of view. You handled this perspective with a keen sense of understanding for the Vulcan mind. Thanks for writing this, it will be interesting to see how Koss's character unfolds.
She should be thanking him?? I'm with sluttyslayer on this, but it's interesting to see it from his (arrogant) perspective. Good writing!
