Part 6

Trip opened his eyes to find his wife looking down upon him. She lay on her side, propped on her elbow. T’Pol’s face bore the expression her husband knew all too well. She was not happy with his deception, but was unable to express herself like she’d normally do. Her outward look was the only way he could tell of her anger.

“Good Morning…” He smiled trying to push past her little temper tantrum. His mate wasn’t budging without addressing her displeasure.

“I guess you aren’t too happy about getting medicated….. Do you remember anything about yesterday?” He watched the look on her face and noticed she seemed less confused. After a short period, T’Pol nodded her head shakily.

“You understand what I am referring too?” Trip asked her again. Another nod, followed by a down turned head.

“It’s okay… They understood…But I couldn’t let you continue to act out on Corporal Cole. I know she needed to be addressed for her actions, but you just weren’t in control enough yesterday. You can understand that, can’t you?” Trip brought up a hand to lightly brush against her cheek. T’Pol nodded again…. then began explaining her actions, only in Vulcan. The Human, totally overwhelmed by the rain of words coming from his wife, held up a hand for her to stop. He showed her a finger, then reached over and grabbed the small device on the bedside table. He flipped the switch, having it already preset by Hoshi yesterday and watched as the soft blue light lit up on the top of the translator.

“Okay…..Now I am ready. What did you say?” Trip held up the device in her direction, but it was quickly swatted out of his hand. It went flying onto the floor and spattered into several large pieces. “Hey….What did you do that for?”

Trip looked at her wondering what she was feeling. He glanced back at the device and realized it was too far gone for a quick reassembly. T’Pol reached over and turned his face back to her.

“No….” She stated, much to the engineer’s surprise.

“You can speak English?” He asked in delight.

“Yes…” T’Pol returned equally flat and forceful.

“Great….What were you trying to tell me?” Trip settled in to hear his wife’s sweet voice again. T’Pol concentrated a moment, and realized it wasn’t as easy as she thought it would be. Her hesitation told Trip all he had to know.

“You know a little English, but not much yet…right?” He smiled softly a bit depressed about not hearing her thoughts.

“Yes…” T’Pol noted her husband’s pleasure at her words.

“So…you can say yes and no….anything else?” T’Pol thought hard and wondered what he’d want to hear.

“Can you say okay?” Trip tried to determine her vocabulary.

“Okay…”She returned mimicking his words.

“Oh so you can repeat what I say?” Trip’s smile grew.

“Love ya to pieces….” He tried to get her to say something he knew she’d have to think about. T’Pol looked at him questioningly. She realized what her husband wanted her to say, but was wondering if she should say these words.

“So you do understand.” He stated, happy to know her thoughts were coming back faster than her words.…. “You know…it is a custom to express things like this when you’ve been away from someone for a while. It’s no different from saying I missed you.” Trip turned to face her, pulling her to him. He held her close and felt the warmth of her breath on his chest.

“My husband is the most handsome man in the universe.” Trip tried again playing with his wife over her tongue tied state. He waited to see what her reaction would be to that.

“Love ya to pieces” She murmured against his skin, and to his shock, T’Pol didn’t seem to be uncomfortable with the words. He giggled knowing it was her dry Vulcan wit that led her to choose that phrase just to taunt him. He leaned her back and stared down into her eyes. There was a soft smile waiting for him there, as he began to kiss her. Their lips played gently against one another. This ignited deep feelings within the engineer’s body. For a moment, he lost all sense of what was going on about them. He focused his mind on her and her alone. After a few minutes, it was T’Pol who leaned back away from him.

“E li za be th” she separated the letters sounding out what she thought was the name of her daughter.

“What?” Trip asked hazily, still lost in the magic of her closeness.

“E li za….” She tried to repeat the word, but got a response from her mate.

“She’s in her bed…..and if she knows what is good for her…..she’d better stay there a while longer.” Trip pulled her back into him and took her mouth more hungrily. T’Pol eased into the interaction, rolling the Human onto his back and pinning him to the sheets. Her hands ran his length, bringing more and more arousal to the fore front of Trip’s mind. His body responded, his hands grabbing roughly at her bottom and back. He forced her to him with great strength. Suddenly a flash of sensation hit Trip square in the brain. He realized immediately it was both familiar and desired. Her mind was now reaching through the madness, planted back firmly in his. This surprised him, and Trip pulled back to look T’Pol now in her smoke filled eyes.

“Was that you?” He asked, his smile large and eyes bright with joy.

“Yessss….” She hissed out the word, wanting to get back to the activities they were engaging in. With that, Trip pulled her back to him, kissing his wife with passion and eagerness. He pushed off with his foot and rolled atop her. T’Pol didn’t fight this move, enjoying her mate’s attempt at taking control of the act. She allowed him to explore her body freely, enjoying all the sensations he was bringing. More importantly, she reflected back to him those sensations, something he’d missed over the last week.

The sensations he was receiving sent him higher and higher. For the first time in days, it was Trip who was lost in the act, and not the out of control Vulcan female. It wasn’t until his hands started undoing her pajama top, revealing her soft sensitive skin, did the horrid tone of the comm buzzer sound.

Trip’s head fell into her ample bosoms. His mind was swirling with a mixture of heat and passion. His breath was heavy and rapid, trying to decrease the feelings of arousal that were welling up inside him. Again the comm. buzzer sounded and Trip steadied himself on his elbow while reaching across his wife’s body to hit the switch.

“What do you want?” he asked irately not remembering he was talking to someone outside the room.

“Commander?” a puzzle Lieutenant Berman returned.

“Yes Lt….What is it?” Trip straightened his voice while sliding off his mate to sit beside her on the bed.

“Commander… I think we are ready to reinitiate impulse drive. The last of the injectors have been cleaned, recalibrated and modulated to specks. We are just waiting for you to arrive to do the start up routines.” The woman’s voice was meek knowing she was asking the Commander to leave his still ailing wife and be there for what would normally be a routine procedure. But if there were to be a flare up, she felt that the chief engineer would be able to handle it more efficiently.

“Understood Lieutenant, I will be there as soon as I can.” Trip replied and tapped off the comm. He looked down at his wife, still lying soft and sensually beside him. Her eyes watched his, wondering now that his communication was over, why he hadn’t returned to her and to their sexual play. Trip looked over to her and noted her inquisitiveness.

“Honey….. They need me in engineering…. I have to go…" Trip reached over into the drawer and pulled out the blue taped hypospray. He held it out to her and awaited her response.

“No….” She stated bluntly, turning her head away from his hand and the object.

“Honey….” He stated more forcefully.

“No..” T’Pol pushed his hand back and continued to look away.
Trip lowered the object, seeing how controlled his wife seemed to be. He considered a moment then offered another idea.

“You stay here with Elizabeth….I’ll have Phlox come and stay with you?” Trip watched as her eyes returned to his a bit more anxious.

“No…” T’Pol was definitely upset about something he said. Trip just hoped it wasn’t about his leaving to go to engineering.

“All right….Phlox doesn’t have to come….How about Hoshi….she could just stop by to check on you and Lizzie, okay?” Trip held his breath and watched as her features eased a bit.

“Okay.” T’Pol rested back onto the bedding, watching has her husband stood and went to the other room. He lifted his daughter from her bed and brought her back to the main room. Trip placed Lizzie on the bed in the crook of her mother’s arm and saw T’Pol pulled the coverlet up about her shoulders.
“Okay…I’ll be back as soon as possible.” The young man smiled softly, and left for the bathroom. He returned in a crisp new uniform that he’d pulled on over his uniform blue undies. Trip leaned down and kissed both his wife and daughter, before leaving the cabin.

On his way through the hallways, he passed by the communication’s officers quarters. She was awake, just getting ready for an early breakfast. Trip explained the situation, and asked Hoshi to stop by to check in on his wife. She agreed, and within minutes, Trip was on his way to the engineering deck.

***

Back in the Tucker cabin, T’Pol lay in bed with her daughter in her arms. She watched as the young child slept peacefully. Lizzie’s mind was becoming clearer to her mother now and the science officer was content knowing her little girl was happy and safe. T'Pol stroked the child’s hair feeling the waves of warmth this motion generated within the small one. She assessed her carefully, now being the dutiful mother again. It was about a half hour before Hoshi came to check on the twosome.

Ensign Soto arrived at their cabin, feeling a bit nervous about what she would find. Trip had assured the communication’s officer that his wife was more lucid, however her use of English was still limited. Dealing with the commander in Vulcan was the least of her worries. Trip also warned her about T’Pol’s skittishness around males, so the young woman hoped there would be no additional backup coming while the engineer was away. She pressed the door buzzer and waited for a reply. When none came, she pressed the communications link and spoke directly into the speaker. In Vulcan, she announced herself and asked the first officer for permission to enter. The response came in kind and Hoshi pressed in the lock code to open the door. She entered finding T’Pol still in bed with her child huddled close.

“Good morning..” She greeted her in proper Vulcan dialect. The commander recognized the strict formation of the words and kept her answers to that level of speech pattern.

“How are you feeling today?” Again Hoshi communicated flawlessly enjoying for once a chance to use her knowledge for more personal reasons. T’Pol replied to her speech in a relaxed manner, making the young woman even more comfortable.

“I apologize for my actions yesterday… It was unfortunate you had to witness such disorder.” Her words were in Vulcan, but the content was definitely more the T’Pol she knew. “I hope I didn’t injure you.”

“You didn’t harm me, and I know of the Corporal’s actions. I don’t blame you for your mistrust of her intentions. I find it rude she shows so little respect for yours and Trip’s union.” Hoshi smile, her friendship showing. However, at the mention of her husband by his first name, the young Asian woman noted a raised eyebrow. (She is really protective of him still, I’d best refer to him only officially for a while.) She thought remembering the last confusion they had when she hugged the young engineer as a friend.

Hoshi noted Lizzie asleep in her arms. “She is really glad to be home, I bet.” The change in conversation helped to regain her trust. T’Pol looked down at the child then returned in her native tongue her gratitude for the young woman’s help in watching over her. They continued to talk about Lizzie’s antics for a few moments longer, when the door buzzer rang again. The Vulcan tensed instantly, pulling her daughter closer too her. Hoshi noted the change and reassured her before going over to the door.

“Who is it?” She asked, close to the comm. panel.

“Hoshi? It’s Doctor Phlox. May I come in?” The Denobulan waited patiently outside the door. The Communications officer turned to her friend and looked for any extreme disapproval of this visitor. T’Pol’s posture hadn’t changed, still clinging to her daughter. Coming over, the young woman asked her in Vulcan if it was a good time for the doctor’s visit. She reassured her that she would remain and would make the male leave when T’Pol indicated. After a few moments, the commander relented and Hoshi went over to unlock the door. Putting in the code, the door swooshed open and the jovial man entered. He stayed behind Hoshi, as they both came closer to the bed. He saw the Vulcan scoot back further away and stopped immediately upon detecting her discomfort.

“Hoshi…Is she able to speak English yet?” Phlox was careful to speak directly to her within range of T’Pol.

“Not enough, but if you’d like, I can translate.”

“That would be helpful, thank you.” He turned his attention back to his patient.

“How are we feeling today?” Words which Hoshi translated quickly. The doctor’s cheerfulness made the woman a bit more nervous. She looked up to her friend and related a short but accurate answer. Phlox removed a scanner from his side pocket and opened the lid. Before he continued, the doctor stopped and had the communication’s officer ask the Vulcan her permission to run tests. Once given, T’Pol sat up straighter in bed, rolling Elizabeth out and away from her body.

“You have been taking your supplements…. Haven’t you?” Phlox asked and Hoshi relayed. There came a nod from the Vulcan as the scanner passed several times over her head.

“Things seem to be resolving nicely….” He reported with great pleasure then began scanning of all things the Vulcan’s lower abdomen. This seemed odd to the young Asian woman, since the bulk of her symptoms had been of a neurologic nature. “Things are going very nicely.” Her curiosity was peaked even more by the satisfaction in his tone as he ran yet another scan. Hoshi hesitated translating on that one, which drew Phlox’s attention. He looked at her from his bent position and awaited her assistance. Hoshi came back to the present and relayed the news to her friend.

(She’s pregnant…) a quick thought came to the young woman, putting all the pieces of the puzzle together. A smile drew across her face as she realized what all the changes were about. (It was all about hormones. That’s what drove her to go crazy.)

”Everything looks just perfect. I think you will be back on your feet fully by tomorrow.” He watched as Hoshi translated. “Tell her to check in with me tomorrow when she is up for it.” The doctor packed up his scanners and left another box of vials on the counter. “Remember, 4 a day until I tell you to stop.” He added and saw this time the Vulcan didn’t wait for the translation to nod her head in response. Both Phlox and Hoshi smiled in amusement at the sight of her progress. The good doctor left the quarters and after another 20 minutes, so did the young woman. Before she went, Hoshi promised to return shortly to check in again. And that if she needed anything, simply use the communicator to call her back. This satisfied the Vulcan, as she curled up with her child once more and attempted to get some much needed rest.

Down in engineering, the chief engineer was going over his engines with a fine tooth comb. Instead of taking his staff’s word that everything had been checked and rechecked, he went through things himself, making sure there was no chance that something could have been overlooked. He pulled out relays, injectors and modules, tapping their casings to be certain they had been properly reassembled. Once confident that things were truly ready, Trip told his staff to get to their stations for start up. He hit the comm. and informed the bridge crew and more importantly the captain to be ready for engine restart.

Taking his position atop the ladder of the engine, he looked to the left and the right along the length of the main reactor chamber. He moved back to the center console.

“All right everyone. Stay alert….” He looked over his shoulder and addressed the group of crewmen at the outer aspect of the engine room. “Watch your indicators…Keep them within specks…Regulate the flow to even out the reaction.” He saw their nod of understanding and turned back to the engine console. He pushed a half dozen buttons then placed his hands on the slide switches. He activated them in a specific order, skipping one for the next, then coming back to activate that one when the order called for it. The large warp engine began to glow its purplish haze. It flickered a bit at first then became steady as the last of the switches were activated.

“Okay….report….come on guys….let me hear something.” Trip’s concern was showing more than his impatience. It was a few minutes, before various crewmen started relaying the good news. The engines were running steady. The flow of the plasma stream was smooth and solid. This made Trip’s anxiety decrease with every passing minute. “Good work guys…” the young engineer had decided to ease up on his crew.

He walked over to the comm. and called up to the captain. “Tucker to the bridge.” He waited to hear his old friend on the line.

“Hey Trip…. How goes it down there?” Archer was in a whimsical mood, knowing full well if there had been a problem, his chief engineer would have been on the comm. a lot sooner.

“Hey, Cap’n… Start up appears to have been successful. We are ready to try things out down here. How about Travis giving us a little impulse.”

Archer looked to his navigator, and saw the young man staring eagerly back. “You heard the man, Mister Mayweather…. Half impulse, course 132.3.” The Captain’s smile reflected the crew's relief at having maneuverability again. The ship began to move and within seconds had eased into the new settings. When the captain was satisfied, he ordered 3/4’s impulse, an order which was quickly followed and attained. After a few minutes at 3/4’s impulse, Archer called down to engineering again.

“How goes it Trip?” He awaited the young man’s voice on the speaker.

“Look’n good, Cap’n…Look’n good.” Archer could tell that his friend wasn’t fully paying attention to his communication. He smiled waiting for the engineer to give him the okay to try warp. After a few more moments, the captain decided to ask the question everyone on the bridge wanted to know.

“Commander…..would you like to try a little warp speed, or should we plan to extend our rendezvous date by a few weeks.” He looked around the room and noticed a half dozen smiles.

“One minute Cap’n…” Trip ran from console to console double checking the numbers and adjusting the flow regulators to meet optimal levels. When he finally felt good about the engine’s performance, he went back over to the comm. and opened up the connection.

“All right Cap’n…. Let’s take it slow…. Tell Travis to ease it into first.” Trip smiled softly himself, but was still totally absorbed in his work. The reactor’s thrum started to echo in the massive room. Its beat reminded him of his heart beat the first time he realized his love for the science officer. There was a soft vibration that followed, one which all crewmen assigned to engineering knew all too well. It was the feel of a smooth running engine. The smiles in the room grew and there were the odd hurray that echoed through out.

“All right people…. I am pleased too. But keep your eyes peeled for any fluctuations.” He tried once more to settle his people down to avoid any missed problems, but even Trip was relieved that their little repair worked. He hit the comm. and checked in with the captain.

“Tucker to the bridge.” He announced, getting an immediate response.

“Nice work, Mister Tucker….She seems to be running smoothly.” Again the bridge crew was quite impressed with their resident miracle worker.

“Yeah, Cap’n… things look pretty good down here too. Let's keep her at warp 1 for a while and let us get some more readings to make sure this fix is gonna last.” Trip was being his usual cautious self and that was just fine for the Captain.

“Will do Trip….Let me know if anything changes. Captain out.” Archer turned off the comm. and sat back comfortably in his chair. He looked about the bridge then ordered Travis to resume the coordinates for home and their schedule stop over at Jupiter station.

***

After checking in on T’Pol an additional time, Hoshi met up with Malcolm for their scheduled lunch break. They got their food from the buffet and moved to a secluded table in the back of the room. Hoshi’s face was bright with the endless grin she wore all day. Malcolm noticed her strange behavior and couldn’t wait to ask her about it.

“You look like the cat that ate the canary….. what’s up?” He asked her leaning in close to try and limit their conversation to themselves. She leaned in closer to meet him which only drew stares from the other crewmen in the room.

“I think I know what caused the Commander’s illness.” She whispered leaving her boyfriend hanging on her every word.

“Well…..What do you know?” He asked impatiently when she didn’t come right out and disclose it.

“I think the Commander is pregnant.” Her voice was low, but not totally inaudible to all around her. It wasn’t until the security officer echoed her words a bit louder though, that the room grew quiet. Hoshi shot him a telling glare.

He leaned back in and lowered his voice. “What on earth makes you think the Commander is pregnant? Last thing Trip told me, she was suffering from a fever of some sort and that all Vulcans can get this fever.”

Hoshi listened but her smile never dimmed. “That’s what they want us to think, but I saw Phlox scanning her today. He spent a lot of time scanning her lower abdomen. Now tell me why would he be doing that if he wasn’t checking for something?” She sat back and picked up her fork.

“You don’t know…maybe Vulcan's fever control centers are in their abdomens…. Maybe she had some kind of stomach flu…..You don’t know.” Reed started using his fork to pick through the mound of pasta creation on his plate.

“Your stomach isn’t in your lower abdomen.” She retorted putting the first bite of food into her mouth.

“Maybe not our stomachs, but are you so sure about Vulcan physiology?” This thought clearly made the young man anxious as he continued to play with his food for several more minutes.

“Why in the world would they even think of having another child while they are still aboard? We can’t even be sure that Elizabeth will be safe here.” It was evident the security officer took his job seriously especially when it came to his youngest charge.

“It’s probably nothing they planned…. I mean they are married… and they always seem to be together…” Hoshi reached out and placed a hand on his. The fork stilled for a moment, as he looked up into her soft brown eyes. Malcolm smiled softly and tried to pretend that this news might possibly be a good thing, but his true concern was that this would be the straw that made Star Fleet remove his friends from the ship for good.

Around them, totally unnoticed, there were small groups buzzing. Things quieted a bit when the Captain walked through to his private dining hall. Once out of range, the whispering commenced.

***

Back in the Commanders quarters, Trip returned after an hour at warp 1. He left an order with his first lieutenant to call if things changed. He found his family busy grooming, but this time it was mom taking care of her child. Lizzie’s face brightened immediately at the sight of her parent. She sat forward, but didn’t move from her mother’s lap. T’Pol looked up from her duties and saw the loving smile that greeted her. Her eyes held a soften desire, from their interrupted activities of the morning and Trip could tell immediately she was thinking of getting back to business. He marveled at the feel of her mind in his again. So many times before, he would complain that his thoughts were not his own, but now he couldn’t imagine going back to that aloneness.

“Hey ladies…. How are we doing today?” He asked, coming up and kissing his little girl on the cheek. This brought out a soft giggle that showed her toothy grin. He picked her up off T’Pol’s lap and sat down beside his mate. Trip then leaned over and kissed his wife on the lips. Lizzie sat on his lap looking up and behind her to watch this happy interaction. She relayed her happiness at the sight and was rewarded with a big hug from her Papa.

T’Pol began to relay information in Vulcan, and saw her mate’s confusion. She then concentrated and through her thoughts projected the happenings of the day. He saw the face of Phlox saying that things were clearing and would be better by tomorrow. He saw Hoshi’s visits and their brief conversation, now translated into a language he could understand. But mostly he noted the doctor’s insistence on her continued use of the supplements. The engineer made a mental note to ask the good doctor why, if she was almost well, did she have to continue taking them?

Lizzie leaned back into her father’s chest. He played with her curls and watched as she shook her head in response to his finger’s touch. There was a soft giggle that accompanied this play that thrilled the young man’s heart.
Trip leaned back into his wife and kissed her again, watching her hand coming up to join the play. She looked at him with great love beneath the softness of her large brown eyes. It wasn’t long before the head of the household left to retrieve for his family a better selection of lunch items.

As he entered the mess hall, Trip saw Hoshi and Malcolm huddled in the corner. He walked over and greeted his friends with a big smile. It was strange to see their sly smirks as both of his pals tried not to bring up their suspicions. They replied to his conversation, hoping he would break the good news, but when nothing came out about the subject, the security officer grew more miffed. This mystified the young engineer, in that his British friend was now acting more strangely than Trip had ever seen. After a few more minutes of conversation, the two left for their posts. Trip then went through the line and retrieved some food for his family. He noticed the strange looks from the surrounding crewmen, but surmised that the rumor mill was just buzzing about his wife’s illness. He had no idea of the new topic running through the crew’s compliment.

***

Trip dropped T’Pol and Lizzie off at sickbay bright and early the next day, and reported to the captain’s ready room as ordered. He wore a huge smile, having had time alone with his wife to pick up their activities of the previous morning. Her English was now almost totally restored and their connection was even stronger than it had been before. He buzzed himself in and was quickly seated across from his oldest friend. Porthos jumped into the young man’s lap the moment he sat down and demanded his usual ear scratch.

“How are things going in engineering? Will we be able to go to maximum warp before we get to Jupiter station?” Archer sat with his coffee mug clasped in his hand.

“I would like to keep her at warp 3 Cap’n if possible. I don’t know what sparked the flair up of the injectors, but I’d like to see them completely checked out before we take her to the max.” Trip’s hand scratched heartily behind the beagle’s flopping ear.

“That’s fine…. Warp 3 will get us to where we are going in time.” Jon smiled and looked down into the swirling liquid in his cup. Trip noticed the hesitation on his friend's part.

“Something wrong Cap’n?” he asked truly confused by the strange behavior he was noticing from the crew.

“I heard some interesting rumors about you and T’Pol…. I know it is not really my business, but is there something you want to talk to me about?” Archer’s eyes still didn’t meet his friend’s.

“Bout what?” the young man was honestly confused. “T’Pol is almost back to normal and Lizzie is just happy to be back with her mommy.”

“I don’t know how to ask this, but there is a rumor circulating that T’Pol might be… a …little………pregnant…?” The captain let slip the last word, then looked up at his friend for the answer.

“What…?” Trip spat out almost choking on his own voice. His forward movement startled the dog, as he jumped from his comfortable position and ran over to his bed in the corner.

“I know Trip… it really isn’t any of my business, you understand I have to know for the safety of all my crew.” Jon leaned forward trying to give his crewman a friendly ear. He clasped his hand in his lap and weighed heavily on his elbows now balancing directly on his knees.

“Cap’n, I assure you. T’Pol is not pregnant. I don’t know how this rumor started, but of all people, I would surely know if my wife was pregnant. I would probably know before Phlox.” He watched his friend’s face still looking a bit unsure about his reassurances.

“Cap’n, really…. She is not pregnant. Our DNA isn’t even compatible without medical help and I know for a fact that T’Pol hasn’t been taking any treatments. We have our hands full with Elizabeth…..now would not be the best time to have another child. We aren’t even sure what Star Fleet is gonna do with us. I mean….we are still on board, but I am sure the older Lizzie gets, the more they will decide she needs to be someplace safer. It would be smarter for us to wait until we get settled somewhere first. Believe me…. I would tell you if that were the case, but it isn’t.” Trip tapped Jon on the shoulder, trying to get him to believe his words.

“It’s good to hear…. I mean I want you and T’Pol to have more children, but I know that Star Fleet wouldn’t be too pleased. I don’t know where this rumor started, but it just shows you how starved the crew is for new info.” Archer leaned back and picked up his coffee mug. He sipped it slowly, feeling better about his conversation with the young man.

“Yeah…. I guess they have gotten tired of talking about Hoshi and Malcolm..” Trip smiled and leaned back as well. He was interrupted by the hand of the captain, silencing his words before he could get them out.

“Oh yeah… I know.. You don’t want to know about…” he didn’t finish knowing his friend wanted to play ignorant to the whole subject of his Ensign's and Lieutenant's dating situation. Where the commanders getting together was difficult to sell to Star Fleet, a relationship between a Lieutenant and an Ensign was fraternization, pure and simple. Archer knew he would not be able to get Star Fleet to be okay with this particular couple. So he simply didn’t want to know, and that was the running joke these two friends shared. Trip’s smile widened even more with the scrunched up look on his face, which mirrored his difficult position in this matter.

Trip stood to leave having discussed fully the status of his wife and of engineering. He thanked the captain for his invitation to dinner this evening and said he would check with T’Pol to see if she would be feeling up to it. Minutes later found him exiting the lift on the level of the sickbay.

***

Entering sickbay, Elizabeth ran over to greet her dad. She jumped into his arms and squealed as he swung her round and round pretending she was an airplane. He finally gathered her into his arms and carried her over to the bio bed where T’Pol was laying. The monitor above her head was full of images and numbers, all of which was alien to the young man.

He came over and quietly watched as Phlox ran yet another scan. Lizzie played with her father’s golden locks and saw her efforts rewarded with a broad smile. She hugged into him tightly and felt his grip on her strengthen.
Phlox finally looked up from his work and noticed the interplay between the two.

“Well Commander…. I am glad to report that things are going splendidly with T’Pol. She is progressing nicely.” Phlox’s words seemed strange to the young man.

“Progressing… she is almost totally cured… Do you see something remaining?”

“No ….. not at all. She is coming out of the blood fever well. Now we simply have to keep monitoring her closely.” Phlox turned and put the scanner he held onto the counter.

“So she will be able to return to duty soon?” Trip was hoping that she could get back into her old routine, knowing that his wife was getting antsy now that she could understand things more fully.

“Yes in a day or two…. I would like her to rest a while longer, but she can work from your quarters. In the meantime, she needs to keep taking the supplements, 4 per day.” Phlox lent a hand to his patient to help sit her up. She moved away from him and accepted it instead from her mate. The good doctor didn’t seem insulted by this move, knowing fully the affects of Pon Farr in regards to other males and the threat they pose.

“If she’s eating…. Then does she really have to keep taking those supplements…. They must really taste horrible, judging by the face she makes when she takes them.” Trip righted his wife to a standing position and looked to the Denobulan. “I mean she never lost her appetite.”

“Commander… you don’t understand.” Phlox started in earnest. “Those supplements were not for loss of appetite. They were for her conception.” That phrase dropped the engineer’s jaw to the floor. He stood there staring blankly at the data on the monitor. His mind was away from the doctor's presence, now swimming in a swirling mass of thoughts and feelings. Lizzie slipped from his arms and stood quietly by her mother’s side.

A whole mess of folks have made comments

Got an early christmas present for you guys, so keep your eyes peeled for it. It's called "Guess we've got a lot of work too do." Out soon, it was an urge I had that I just couldn't resist...T

What a cliffhanger. That was great. I know you got school and that is very important, but you got to keep writing in this series. I don't care what, its to good to finish now. I can't wait to read the finally of Baby Makes 4 and Can't wait for "Guess we've got a lot of work too do."

i am sorry but if i were trip i would be angry and hurt .it should be awhile before he is able to trust her again.

and i dont know if the tpol in this story could be so underhanded to go behind trip's back.

it also pretty much will make trip doubt how well he knows tpol even with the bond since she hid this from him.

if they had both decided on this or an accident would be ok.but this was seriously planned.

but she possibly has just destroyed his career without even asking him.

i suspect they eventually will work things out but realistically it should take some time and counseling.

and by the way phlox also has a lot to answer for doing this behind trip's back.

i knew from the title that a baby was involved but was thinking it would be an accident since it became obvious that trip didnt seem to think it was a possibility.

Hmmm.... I love this story, but whoa... You have some serious explaining to do!!

I will wait for the last chapter before I express an opinion on the matter.

Hey, great chapter!!

Thank you for the high praise guys. I had a english comp teacher in school who used to say the mark of a great story isn't the one that everyone seems to like, it's the one that gets people talking....I guess I wrote a doozy of one this time....T.

Uh, really looking forward to the last chapter.

pookha, Maybe T'Pol had no idea she could get pregnant without any genetic manipulation. She still can't communicate in English, so even if she's aware that she's pregnant, maybe she thinks Phlox has already told Trip. A woman can't tell she's pregnant early on unless someone does a test to detect it and gives her the results. I haven't read where Phlox has actually TOLD her yet. Maybe SHE doesn't know she's pregnant yet either! Wouldn't it be a kick if Trip and T'Pol were the last ones on board to find out she's pregnant?

I have to agree with Pookha. If T'Pol did know what the supplements were for and didn't tell Trip, then it was a very underhanded and inconsderate action. Very selfish. She didn't even care to get his opinion on the matter. Phlox would also have a an moral and ethical obligation to inform Trip before allowing the supplements to be administered.

If T'Pol didn't know what the doses were for and this is just some kind of experiment by Phlox, then there are some serious malpractice issues here.

I don't know how you're going to tie this up in one chapter, but I'm looking forward to it.

Well I was a bit surprised at first,,;) then I remembered the title of this Fic,,,,,,,,, But We cant forget that T'pol was not at all to pleased to find out that she was goin through her Ponn Farr early,, I think she could have been worried that she an Trip were not ready to care for two children pluss this could mean the end of both of their services on Enterprise,,, And since she didnt really have a chance to tell Phlox no awfull tastin gunk to drink,, an since she was quite out of it for before an durin the whole Pon Farr,, I wouldnt put the blame on T'pol just yet guys,,, Id sooner blame Phlox,,,since T'pol was never able to comunicate what she wished,, an so then we cant blame Phlox ether, cause all he had to go on was the past disscussions on what to do when T'pols time comes,,, He an TnT had all been probably plannin for her Ponn Farr in a couple years,,, an Phlox just assumed that sooner was better then later to make a baby,,,,,,,,,,,,,, So it looks like the blame could go all the way around since Im bettin Trip wasnt exactly all there when Phlox an T'pol were goin over what the Gunk was an what it did,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Ok now thats over with,,,,,, I just loved this chapie,,,,,,,,, I love T'pol groomin Lizzy,,, so freakin cute,,,,, I want my own lil pair of Vulcan gals,,,,,,,, Pleaseeeeeeeeeee! ;),,,,, Oh I cant wait to find out how Polly finaly deals with Cole,,,,,,,,, Just great well written chapie once again,,,,,,,,,,, I cant wait for the next update.

great chapter, there is a lot to discuss..? Can't wait for the next.

That's true Mitchell and very plausible. But don't you think Phlox might have thought to pass the information onto Trip. As a doctor, you don't just discuss that kind of thing with just one parent and not the other. And I think Phlox might also have some clue as to how bad this could be for both their careers and in turn not administered the supplements because he hadn't got confirmation from them both. If there hadn't been enough time to confirm with T'Pol, I think Phlox would have felt compelled to at least discuss it with Trip. I don't think he would have given her the supplements so quickly with no confirmation from her and no knowledge of the whole thing on Trip's part.

Oh my god. This is turning out to be nobel prize winning stuff. I think I will email a copy of this story to my english comp professor and let him decide the outcome. In the meantime, you'll never guess how I resolved it.( she says with an evil smirk....lol)

First off Oops on the double post,,, Stupid screwy net,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Ok Coconut1,,Yeah I do think Phlox as a Dr. should of Told Trip what the heck he was force feedin T'pol,,, an also think Trip should of asked what the heck that stuff was,, But Trip had other things on his mind, like makin sure he an T'pol made it through the next week alive.,,, An like I said it looked like none of them either T'pol, Phlox, or even Trip had expected the Ponn Farr to happen so sone,, so Im bettin they hadent had a chance ot sit dow an go over all the finner details yet,,, Of course that dont excuse Phlox not tellin Trip, that the juice was baby seed fertilizer,,,,,,, Yeah Phlox should of talked with Trip,,, But dont forget this is the guy who had to go an plant dirty thoughts in a certin Captains mind one weird night In sickbay, in season 2,,,, He dosnt always have the best judgment.

LOL... Mitchell, you're hilarious. I like your spin on things. It just felt rushed. Not enough people were asking questions or taking the actions they normally would have -- especially Phlox.

I also think that T'pols and Phloxs actions were pretty underhanded. Trip doesn't get any say in the matter at all. I'm not too keen on T'pol turning into this zombie Vulcan who can't even speak. I thought your first few chapters were very realistic with how you portrayed Pon Farr, but now I'm not so sure.

distracted i think you missed this
"Commander… you don’t understand.” Phlox started in earnest. “Those supplements were not for loss of appetite. They were for her conception"

so either tpol knew what they were for and did this without trip's input or consent or phlox is in major trouble for experimenting on a patient without their consent.

which means not only should he be off the ship since this wasnt even something done to save the life of a patient he should be kicked out of the interspecies medical exchage.

and it is bull byproduct that he didnt have time ..
he had a lot of time even once the pon far started to describe to trip what the supplements were for .

what is more bizarre is that phlox told trip about why tpol was acting the way she was but didnt think to mention that oh yes the pon farr is the cause of this and by the way she is planning to get pregant.

actually looking over the first chapter it appears phlox out right lied to trip about the nature of the supplements..

"Phlox had brought a tray of fresh vegetables and fruits to the room, and a box of nutrition vials that contained a few ounces of liquid in each. "Make sure she gets at least 4 of those a day....Even if she eats, she will need more calories than usual""

and when phlox told him that he once again had a chance to tell trip why she was taking them.

and yes tpol mind was not thinking totally clearly but it was enough to tell trip to talk to phlox about what she wished if she wasnt up to it.

she certainly had a enough awareness to be concerned that she might hurt him physically.

i dont see this breaking them up.. especially with there aleady being a child and another on the way.
trip is to honorable for that.
but, this should really hurt because this is a lot more then bringing a sehlat into the house .
this is a major betryal of trust .

"I'm not too keen on T'pol turning into this zombie Vulcan who can't even speak"

actually you can get that interpetation from amok time ..
as things progress spock becomes more and more like an animal.
in fact they are stunned when he is able to speak.

now you can see that as part of a normal pon farr or what happens if the male is challenged.

I pose a question to you all. You think that Trip is unaware of the treatment, then how come in his talking to the captain, he referrs to the fact that they would need treatments to conceived. Could it be that he could have been part of an earlier discussion with Phlox and T'Pol and simply didn't put the two items together. I mean he had a lot more on his mind with surviving this thing. Maybe he didn't remember this whole thing was about conceiving. I mean he didn't have much time to be reminded when it hit her, now did he....Try that one on for size.....T

he knows that there would have to be medical help due to what they learned about lorian..
that is what i suspect he ment when he said treatments.

it is one reason above well someone went behind his back to plan this is that he probably assumed a lot more would have to happen then tpol drinking some stuff for her to get pregant with a child that has a chance of coming to term.

i dont think trip is so dull that he would have forgotten what the vials were for or that he and tpol had made plans to have another child right away.

that kind of discussion is hard to miss.

so if you make it to where trip forgot something like that he comes off as an ignorant ninny..and he dosnt come across like that in the story.
he has his wits enough to fix the engines and deal with everything else thrown at him.

of course tpol and/or phlox are not looking to good right now either.

There might not have been anything underhanded here. I can see Trip, T'Pol and Phlox talking about wanting a child at her Pon Far and Phlox saying he would start researching what was needed. Then when the Pon Far comes, Phlox, knowing they wanted the kid goes ahead with the treatment assuming Trip would know what it was for. Trip probably thought the process would be more involved, and figured Phlox didn't have enough time since the Pon Far was earlier than expected.

I can see that as a reasonable chain of events. Lets see how TLR does it, I'm really looking forward to the resolution.

Ooooooooo! Nice chappie, even though I hate cliffhangers. Mwa ha ha, this should be good! Can't wait for more! :)

I sent it in yesterday guys.... Hope you like it...T.
