Part Five

Jennifer smiled as she watched T’Pol look out the window. She was worried about Trip and Varen. She put the glasses in her hand on one of the tables then walked over to her. “Hey… you still awake?”

“Trip and Varen have not returned.”

“I see… you’re worried about them.”

T’Pol looked back at her and frowned. “In a matter of speaking. They should have been back by now.”

Jennifer laughed. “I wouldn’t worry about them. They’ve always been able to take care of themselves.”

T’Pol sighed. “If you think that then you obviously do not know much about Trip Tucker’s past.”

Jennifer again laughed. “Varen may be a lot like his father, but he has your logic. If they were in trouble Varen could get them out of it.”

T’Pol could not disagree with that; Varen was very logical for a person who did not suppress his emotions. “Indeed.”

Varen walked into the house to find his mother sleeping on the couch near the door. He smiled slightly before taking a blanket and covering her. “You’re back… where’s Trip?”

Varen jumped. “Jennifer? What are you doing up?”

“One question at a time Varen.”

“He’s on the beach… he’ll be back soon. Now you.”

Jennifer smiled and looked down at T’Pol. “I was cleaning up. I didn’t really feel tired anyway. Where were you? Your mother was worried.”

Varen smiled. “Just her?”

Jennifer laughed. “Not really.”

Varen walked closer to her smiling. “Good.”

Soon they were only inches apart. Their lips moved closer and closer to each other until Jennifer moved away and closed her eyes. “I… I’m sorry.”

“Jennifer!” Jen began moving away towards her room so he grabbed her arm. “Jen!”

She looked up into his eyes in surprise. “I don’t think I’ve ever heard you call me Jen before.”

Varen smiled down at her. “I’ve decided to make some changes in my life. First calling you by the shortened version of your name… next explaining to you why I’ve been such an ass lately.”

Jennifer smiled. “You were always an ass… it was just now more than usual,” she teased.

Varen frowned then moved her into her room. Once they were inside he closed the door and sat next to her on the bed. “I’m sorry I said those things when we broke up. I didn’t mean any of them. I… I was simply frightened.”

“Frightened of what?”

“I was beginning to love you too much.”

Jennifer cocked her head in confusion. “And that’s a bad thing? How could that scare you?”

“I will probably live to be somewhere near 200 years old. You could barely make it to 100 years old. I feared that if I began to love you like this… so much… I wouldn’t be able to take losing you. I couldn’t even imagine a world without you. And it began to frighten me… this feeling, the feeling that one day I would lose you. I’d have to live the rest of my days without you in my life. Even the thought was unbearable Jen… just the very idea!”

“Varen… you don’t have to worry about that just yet. I’m alive now… that’s all that matters. That’s all that should matter.”

Varen smiled. “My father said the same thing. The fact is I love you… and if I do lose you… I’ll just have to deal with it when it happens.”

Jennifer grinned then moved up and kissed him softly. At first it was soft then slowly grew to be more. He opened his mouth as she opened hers. Soon their arms were tightly around each other as she began to move down on the bed. “Jennifer?”

Varen and Jennifer jumped up and looked at the door frowning as they saw the look in Jonathan Archer’s eyes. “Oh… hey, Daddy.”

The next morning went well. Varen and Jennifer had made up. Trip was finally at the house having a very long conversation with T’Pol and Jonathan was eating a very good breakfast made by his daughter. He’d missed her food. She always had been a good cook.

The best part was it kept his mind off of the little scene he’d watched last night. It almost made him sick to see his daughter kissing a man like that. His little girl wasn’t so little anymore… and it was about time he realized that. Still… it didn’t make things any easier.

For god’s sake… if he hadn’t come when he did, he was sure they’d gone on to more than just kissing. He didn’t even want to THINK about that one! He was glad to see Jennifer and Varen happy but couldn’t they just keep their hands to themselves… at least until they were married! Of course he’d never done that but he was a father now… things change.

It was then that he heard a strange noise. He cocked his head slowly and looked up at the sky light over the living room where Jennifer and Varen were. It was then that he saw them. “Get down!”

But it was too late. The glass blew down and the men jumped from the ceiling to the floor below. Half of them went after Archer while the rest went after his daughter. Jonathan fought the two Klingon men… blocking their punches and kicks. Then tried to throw a few of his on punches. He hit one hard and he fell to the ground then worked on the other one. He could hear screams in front of him. “Dad! Varen!”

“Jennifer!”

Archer looked past the Klingon at where the screams had come from then felt every bone in his body ache as he watched the Klingons take her away. Varen lay on the floor bleeding while Trip and T’Pol fought a few other Klingons that had dropped in. “Jennifer! No! Jennifer!”

Archer hit the Klingon before him and began to run for his daughter but it was too late. They were gone. They’d run away… with his daughter. Jonathan fell to the floor as he looked up at where they’d taken his daughter. “No…” he whispered.

T’Pol ran for her son. Trip walked beside her to see if he was okay then moved on to Jonathan. “Jon?”

“She’s gone… she’s gone,” he repeated over and over again as tears fell from his eyes. “She’s gone.”

T’Pol looked down at her son. “I tried to save her mother… I could not… I couldn’t save her. And now I may never see her again,” Varen whispered the pain in his voice showing throw. Though he had been stabbed in the stomach he crawled towards Archer and moved his hand to her shoulder. “I promise you Jon… I will get her back… father… if she is still alive I will bring her back to you.”

Jonathan looked at the boy he’d watched grow up and nodded slowly before moving to hug him. “I know, son… I know.”

The End

Can you believe that?! The nerve of me to give you a cliffhanger for an ending! Aren’t I just so evil? Don’t worry… there’s more of course. Look for “Revenge and Honor”… it shouldn’t take too long. ;)

EVIL!! Oh, I would say you've gone waaaay past evil right about now. Nice to see Varen and Jennifer patch things up. Very funny having Archer walk in on them... I'm just surprised he did'nt blow a gasket. Don't take to long for your next posting:)

You ARE evil! But, I'll forgive you because the story's so good! You MUST continue soon, though!!!

This was good but also frustrating. I can't believe what a jerk Archer is being. Just walking into his daughter's room - without even knocking - then getting all up tight and jealous because she and Varen had made up and were kissing. Get a life Jon! The last part felt rushed and I couldn't believe that when Varen got stabbed T'Pol ran to him but Trip just walked over to see how he was as if it was no big deal! What a way to leave us, hope you post the next part soon and please give Archer a shake for me. Thanks, Ali D :~)

I've enjoyed your representation of Archer in this story. I can see where his thoughts and actions come from: fatherhood, and his little girl. Typical of any Dad, in general, to walk in at the wrong moment. Jennifer seemed to accept Varen back quickly. The ending was a bit rushed, then again, so was the attack. Evil, wicked one that you are, please post the next story soon!

Yes, you certainly are evil and wicked and not at all nice to your faithful readers -- but you write a darn good story and I suppose if you're going to have a cliffhanger it may as well be a good cliffhanger. Just don't keep us in suspense for too long!
