Part 3

Suddenly the rocking of the ship ceased. A few moments later, tactical alert sopped.

“Stand Down,” Trip’s disembodied voice commanded over the ship-wide comm system.

Amanda hit the wall comm. “What’s going on, Lieutenant Reed?” she asked her superior.

“The Vulcans have withdrawn. Captain Archer has contacted Commander Tucker and reported that the Vulcan attack on Andoria has been called off.”

“Why?” Amanda asked, amazed.

“I’ll brief you when we have more information. In the meantime, continue to watch Ambassador Soval.”

“Aye, sir.” Amanda returned to the biobed. Soval’s face was flushed green and his breathing shallow. The bruises from his treatment at the hands of Shran darkened his wrists and temples. Amanda felt regret that she had been so dismissive of his ordeal. And he had been kidnapped while under the protection of Enterprise. Try as she might, she couldn’t wish away that reality.

“Phlox, let’s get him to a more comfortable bed,” Amanda directed.

Phlox found a suitable replacement, and Amanda lowered the bed and found some pillows and blankets.

“Vulcans do not need such comforts,” Soval informed her, still conscious somehow.

“Too bad. I need them and therefore you have to suffer.”

Phlox and Amanda worked together to ensure Soval’s comfort. Once done, they looked upon the Vulcan who had, against all odds, fallen asleep.

“Thank you, Cole. I have things under control now. You can return to duty,” Phlox informed her exuberantly.

“Are you nuts?” Amanda demanded. “When he is back in the deceptive arms of the VHC, then I’ll relax my guard. This is all too…easy.” Amanda was not a trusting soul.

Phlox inclined his head and went back to work. Amanda sat by her charge and reflected upon the fact that being a bodyguard was, well, pretty damn boring when not under attack. Amanda liked the edge of uncertainty in her life.

I keep pouncing on each new segment. Will Amanda end up protecting Soval from the VHC? Bet THAT would keep her from being bored.

Short but good. Thanks

Love the idea of Soval and Amanda getting on each other's nerves.
