**Dream**

#######Trip stood at the far end of engineering. He glanced over to where the Vulcan remained tending to her work. His mind grew uneasy at the fact that their relationship had not improved after meeting their son Lorian. Secretly, he hated the fact that she was avoiding him. He longed for her touch, her thoughts or even just the comfort of her friendship. But their night together, no matter how glorious put a definite strain on that friendship. Now they had to find a way to work together without the alien's evasive tactics.

The engineer turned his attention back to the gauges before him. The damage the Kavolins inflicted was extensive and the human really didn't understand what was keeping the ship together. An eerie sense of dread hit the man squarely between the eyes. He looked up in time to see a bright flash appear from the panel just before his beloved. This flash erupted into a large explosion that blew the Vulcan and two passing crewman up against the far wall of the room.

As if in slow motion, Trip watched helpless as the svelte young woman's body arched in the air before slamming hard into the metal bulkhead. She lay there, crumpled in a pile on the floor. The engineer dashed madly to her side, rolling her to face him. The beautiful face he'd come to know was now marred on one side by burn marks and trickles of bright green blood.

While others raced to care for the human casualties, Trip scooped T'Pol's body into his arms and ran directly through the engine room doors. He didn't stop running until he burst through the doors of sickbay. Standing there in a moment of shock, all around could see the traces of tears rolling down the young man's face. Phlox ran up and met the human, taking the limp body Trip held out of his hands.

The good doctor gingerly laid out the injured first officer onto the scanner table. It slid quickly into the cylinder shaped machine and the frosted doors closed tightly separating the two kindred spirits for what seemed to be an eternity. The rotund Denobulan worked at a maddening pace to try and stabilize the alien creature. Trip stood there in shock disbelieving everything around him. It wasn't until he saw the sickened look on the doctor's face, that the human knew his worst nightmares were coming true.

" Doc, she gonna be OK? " Trip's voice was shaking, knowing his answer before the alien had a chance to speak it. Phlox remained silent and simply looked the young man in his eyes. The quiet answer he conveyed caused the blond haired man to break down and weep.

As the readings on the monitor began to dim, Phlox pressed the button to open the imaging unit. The body of the frail woman, now covered in more of her green blood lay there helpless to defend herself against death. Trip pushed past the elderly male and came up to her. He saw her eyes opened slightly. Somehow the human knew it was for his benefit that she struggled so. A badly damaged hand rose up to trace the line of Trip's jaw. At this touch, he felt and heard the slightest of voices speaking to him.

"I love you Trip. I always have and I always will. Forgive me." and with that the hand dropped back to her side and the young woman exhaled her last breath. There was a deafening silence that permeated the room. Even time decided to honor this woman and stop cold. The tears that streamed down the blond male's face began to fall heavily on her marred beauty.

"NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" Trip cried falling into her body, his body heaving with his sighs. He grabbed T'Pol into his arms and hugged her close hoping to bring her back to life with sheer will. But her arms hung flaccid against his hold and her head bobbed slightly with his sobs. Phlox came up to try to lend a sympathetic shoulder but was quickly pushed away by the young man who wanted nothing more than to spend this time alone with his beloved. The crying continued without end as Trip felt his heart shatter into a million pieces. He inhaled for yet another gut wrenching sigh when he felt his body spring up in a start. #######

Awake and heaving on his bunk, Trip wiped at the combination of sweat and tears that drenched his face. He searched the room for any clue as to what had just happened. He was frantic, not knowing if what he experienced was just a dream or a true memory. There was nothing before him that conveyed a clue to that question. Going insane, Trip leaped from his bed and burst out the door of his quarters. Through the hallways the young engineer padded, dressed in only a pair of old worn sweatpants. Strange looks from passers-by went unnoticed to him as he traversed the length of the ship to get to her quarters.

Standing before the door, Trip hesitated not wanting to find out the truth. He paced round and round in circles trying to decide which was worse, his need to know or what he might find out. Finally, his worry got the better of him and he slammed hard onto the door bell. Impatient, he rang it a second and third time. The rings going unanswered, gave Trip's uneasy feeling a boost. He leaned into the door heavily and began to sob.

Taken by surprise, the door swooshed open and a very sleepy T'Pol stood there before him. Her mind was hazy but even through the haze she could sense his somber mood. Speechless, Trip lunged for the woman and grabbed her into his arms, pulling her tightly against his tear soaked chest. T'Pol felt an overwhelming wave of a motion hit her, forcing the Vulcan to cling on to the Human for support. Her arms wrapped around him tightly, her head resting in the crook of his neck. The joy she received from this gesture gave her heart a strange sense of satisfaction. Trip leaned back and looked her square in the eye. Without another word his hands came up and clasped her face gently pulling it to his. He kissed her, an unyielding kiss that started the alien's mind whirling again. This kiss, lasting only a moment seemed to go on forever as the hunger behind it kept them both from resisting.

When the kiss finally ended, Trip pulled back and looked longingly into her eyes. His mind was sure of one thing and one thing only. His dream could never become reality, at least not the way he saw it.

Trip never let go of the Vulcan's face nor did he give her a chance to protest. With a deep breath he uttered the one thing that would make everything all right.

"God, I love you, Lady!!!!!!! " and with that he brought her mouth to his again. Inching backwards, the couple eased behind the privacy of the closing portal.

Nice little story, liked it a lot. Glad the beginning turned out to be dream ^^

I was wondering there for a minute. The beginning was a little TOO much like a role reversal of The Abomination. I got a little queasy there for a bit. Whew.

Nice story, was worried for a little bit but very nice ending.

Read that you've got the last chapter of "a new life" done will be intersting to see how you end it but any plans to continue "the dilithium mission" ??

Nothing like a scare to get galvanize someone into action, eh? Nice plot device.

Linda, sometimes all a man needs is a little push, lol. Also Brett, the final chapter of the dilithium mission will be out in a week. "A new life" will be out in a day or so. The way I ended "A new life", I think there will have to be a spin off called "Warp 7" cause unfortunately I set up another very fun storyline in the last chapter, oh darn. Glad you liked this little diddy. Now off to work. School by the way is busy, but going well, still raking in those A's. ......T.

Powerful dream! A bit scary at first. But I really liked the way you concluded the story.

And did you say we can expect the next part of the Dilithium Mission in a week? Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have been W-A-I-T-I-N-G. I cannot wait!
